Amatlán de Cañas: Known for its natural hot springs and chocolate, this city is situated on the southeastern border of Nayarit. Visitors are particularly drawn to El Manto, a natural spring with cavernous walls and waterfalls. Amatlán de Cañas is about a two-hour drive from Tepic, however, the mountainous, winding roads might prove a bit tricky to navigate.
Ahuacatlán: If you want to see Mexican bullfighting with some local flavour, you best head to Ahuacatlán. The city is also popular for historic structures such as the Church of San Francisco de Asis and El Ceboruco, the active volcano that peeks over the skyline.
Jala: Situated near Ahuacatlán, Jala is known for the Elote Fair. Conducted in August, the fair revolves around a contest for the world’s largest corn cobs, but you can catch other festivities as well.
