The energy in the lobby of the Aloft Brussels Schuman, appeals to the waterlogged and tired traveler. If you are arriving in Brussels, Belgium in the winter, it is likely a little windy and a little rainy. The industrial-chic designed lobby is bright and cheerful, with modern furniture and community features such as pool tables and computers. There are spots to read and unwind, or sit an have a coffee. The music is uplifting, but not overwhelming. The Aloft logo floats around the lobby in lights giving the hotel a semi-hip, club feel, but not enough to distract you. The staff are welcoming and helpful. There are mints on the desk and umbrellas can be rented (often necessary). The lobby is an excellent introduction to the remainder of the hotel.

Comfortable rooms in Aloft Brussels Schuman

The Aloft Brussels Schuman offers several room choices, depending on your situation. If you are traveling in a group (like I was), I recommend the double room with two twin bed options. Unlike other hotels that offer these rooms, the double with twin beds are just as roomy and the beds just as comfortable. In fact, the bed is so comfortable and the pillows so cozy you may want to sleep in instead of exploring the city. No one would judge you. The rooms are bright and have huge windows overlooking the city. Additionally, there is a fair amount of privacy (which is also good for groups). There are modern appliances (huge flat screen TVs that allow for immediate game hook-ups, coffee maker, refrigerators) and enough outlets. The rooms could use an additional mirror, to minimize girls trying to fight over the two mirrors in the same space, but it isn’t a significant issue.

Shower in Heaven

Shower in Heaven at Aloft Brussels Schuman

If you are anything like me, you need a good shower in the morning to start your day off right. At Aloft Brussels Schuman, the shower has fantastic pressure, more than adequate hot water supply for multiple people, and plenty of room. It is not a tiny shower where you bump your elbows on the wall while washing your hair. In a very eco-conscious matter, the Aloft stocks a dispenser of Bliss shampoo/conditioner and body wash. Other Bliss products are complimentary, adding that extra bit of luxury to your stay.

Aloft Brussels Schuman is within walking distance to most attractions in Brussels

The Aloft Brussels Schuman does offer breakfast, and it would probably be good. The staff incentives people to try food and drink at the hotel by offering a 5 EUR (~5.50 USD) voucher if your room is not cleaned on your second day of a multiple day stay. Despite this, I would encourage you to venture out and try the delicacies outside of the Aloft.

The Aloft is within a 5 minute walk of Paul, which does excellent coffee, pastries and sandwiches (great for breakfast before you go). It is within a few minutes walk of a fantastic coffee store called the Living Room. Within ten minutes, there are bars and restaurants. For sightseeing opportunities, the Aloft is walking distance from most attractions in Brussels. You can easily reach the city center within twenty minutes walking, or the metro is a five minute walk. The European Commission is practically on the Aloft’s front doorstep. Before you go, research if there are any European Summit’s as it may impact which roads you are able to take to the hotel.

The absolute skinny

The Aloft Brussels Schuman is situated in the heart of the European quarter. It’s walking distance from the center, near an excellent coffee bar (the Living Room), has wonderful and helpful staff. Although it could be considered a “budget” hotel with rooms starting at 50 EUR/night (~55.80 USD), you will never feel like you are compromising quality, style, or experience by staying here. It is an excellent choice for groups, couples, and families.
