With live music a frequent feature of the bar, and retro nights highly popular with the clientele, this is an unpretentious spot you’ll be delighted you visited. Although they don’t serve food, they take a relaxed attitude to you bringing food from elsewhere and eating it here, and with their full bar, you’ll always have something fine with which to wash it down.

5. Ocean 2000

This upmarket beach bar is ideal if you’re not up for one of the dive-bar vibes popular elsewhere in Fort Lauderdale. Ocean 2000 is a bar with a more refined approach, right down to the pictured bar foods - it’s less a “nachos and cheese” place, more a “chowder and plantain chips” establishment. Attached to the Pelican Grand Beach resort, this bar is still a superb place to kick back and relax, but you might want to dress up a little. Don’t worry, it’s well worth the effort.

6. d Street Wine Bar

Just off north Ocean Boulevard, this stately bar is perfect for those whose tastes - at least occasionally - veer away from cold beers and towards a finely-aged bottle of fine wine. The ideal night spot for a more mature crowd, 33rd Street Wine Bar has an excellently-curated list of wines - at the most recent count, 120 different wines, all served by the glass. To make the experience better still, the owner Candace has laid on an excellent range of cheeses, making for an excellent, high-end evening for all attendees.

As the reviews online indicate, this is not the place for you if you’re looking for a hipster bar or gastropub. It is very much for you if you want to step off the beach into a bar with an off-kilter, cheerful vibe and a wide range of bottled beers. The walls are adorned by neon bar signs, and the entire feel is of a place that combines the best elements of a sports bar, local pub, and lounge and produces a welcoming hostelry you’ll want to come back to.

8. Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar & Cafe

Even in winter, the temperatures can get pretty high in Fort Lauderdale, which makes it extremely tempting to try a frozen cocktail. That’s just one of the many options for clientele at the Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar and Cafe, a highly affordable and attractive nightspot with dive bar prices but a more upmarket aesthetic. The food is reassuringly unpretentious, with chicken wings, burgers, and pizzas a major element of the cuisine, and the share platters (also known as Grouper Bites) make the entire experience a communal, enjoyable way to spend an evening or more.

9. Oceanmist Pub & Bar

Posted by Ocean Mist Pub on Sunday, 30 June 2019

Oceanmist is under no illusions, and makes no apologies, about what it is. This is a classic dive bar and the patrons like it that way - the food is simple but tasty and you will have no shortage of options as to what you want to drink. The pub aesthetic is unmistakable, from the pool tables and unpretentious decoration to the extremely competitive prices, but this bar, above all else, is a welcoming place to have a few drinks and cool off from a day on the beach.

Themed cocktails and light bites are very much the order of the day, although with an expanding menu you can enjoy one of their larger meals - the bacon hamburgers are particularly highly recommended.
