Koh Tao was the most unreal island, exactly what you picture when you think of Thailand! The beaches are beautiful, the nightlife is unreal, and there is so much to do! Many would disagree, but we’d rate Koh Tao way over Koh Phi Phi (both considered ‘party islands’). We think Koh Tao has a much nicer, friendlier and cleaner (it doesn’t stink ahahha) vibe!

Koh Samui is Thailand’s second-largest island after Phuket. The beaches are lined with tall palm trees and coconut groves. Dense rainforests also cover the area of Koh Samui. If you want to experience a stay at a luxury resort, then we would suggest you try out Deva Beach Resort & Spa. Koh Samui is known for the range of spa facilities that it offers. Deva Beach Resort on the secluded beach of Choeng Mon offers some luxury spa services, three outdoor pools, various watersports activities, beach-side and pool-side bars, and open-air restaurants serving authentic Thai cuisine. The rooms of this hotel are beautifully lit with soft lighting, granting a very romantic appeal to the atmosphere.

I recommend visiting this island instead of Phuket!
The island has a lot to do and see. The best way to get around is to rent a motorbike and explore yourself (rentals cost approximately 5 USD - 7 USD per day). We spent five days in Samui, which I thought was the perfect amount of time. We explored the island quite a bit, relaxed on the beautiful beaches and got to enjoy our lovely oceanfront resort.
Here's my recommended itinerary for Samui:
- Visit an elephant sanctuary.
- Shop, have a drink and enjoy a meal with a view at Fisherman's Village.
- Visit the famous Big Buddha - not only is he cool to see up close, but sitting atop the hill, you can also enjoy sweeping ocean views. Later, grab a bite, shop for souvenirs at the surrounding shops and hydrate with a fresh coconut!
- Visit the temples (remember, you're requested to cover your knees and shoulders).
- Swim on the pristine beaches (snorkeling and water sports are available all over).
- Explore, get a little lost and see what hidden gems you stumble across! Some of the coolest spots we found were just by turning down quaint roads towards the ocean and seeing where we ended up. We found the best little tiki bars, beach dives and bungalows with private beaches.
- Visit Chaweng Beach's downtown area for some live music and nightlife.
- Catch a fire show on the beach.
- Watch the sunrise over the ocean.

9. Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand in my opinion. This island was our next stop after our week in Koh Samui.
My husband had already visited this island three times before and could not stop raving about it. The bungalows he stayed at let guests step out of the door and be right in the ocean. These only cost 3 USD per night. The catch? You have to trek through the jungle to get to the toilets. As I told him my necessities were in-room toilets and hot water, he of course called me high maintenance, but then proceeded to book us this gorgeous bungalow on a quiet beach at High Life Bungalow. This accommodation met both my requirements and had a view to die for!
We fully intended to explore the island, but after a minor motorbike accident and the fact that we were obsessed with our accommodation and the beautiful beach, we mainly stayed put and relaxed. We went for a swim in the ocean every morning with no one else on the beach, pub-crawled the entire beach over a couple of days, and enjoyed the incredible views from the infinity pool on our property.
It was the perfect way to relax after our busy week of sightseeing and island exploring in Koh Samui.
