Its glorious beach strip, about 92km (57 miles) long in total, is distributed across with the Thanh Binh and Xuan Thieu beaches in the north, rocky beaches of the Son Tra Peninsular region in the eastern, mountainous area, and the My Khe, Bac My An, Non Nuoc, and Pham Van Dong beaches in the south. The largest of these islands is Con Son, hosting one of the country’s best and most luxurious resort, Six Senses Con Dao Resort. It offers 50 top-class villas, strewn across a long sandy strip of Dat Doc Beach, allowing some of the most exquisite waterfront views and access to a wealth of water activities to the villa occupants. Else, there’s An Hai Beach in Con Son, Dam Trau Beach to the north of Con Dao, and several other equally stunning beaches. Con Dao is also famous for its biodiversity and it has become a famous ‘eco-getaway’ destination, so you can always couple your beach fun with some exploration!
3. Ho Tram (from USD 112)
Travel 125km (77.6 miles) south-east of the capital Ho Chi Minh City and you’ll find Ho Tram, devoid of a large city’s mess and a beachfront lined with towering palms doing a happy dance. Ho Coc Beach, with an expanse of shimmering white sands and pristine waters, is among Ho Tram’s biggest attractions. Several resorts and hotels have cropped up near the beach, so you can easily check in to one and explore the magic of the area around. There are not a lot of water sports or other commercial activities in the area and it is mostly famous for making a quiet retreat destination. Although, you can go swimming in the sea, on an excursion trip to Binh Chau Hot Springs, explore the local wildlife, or just sit back and enjoy the serenity that abounds in Ho Tram.

Kitesurfing is among the largest draws of Mui Ne and there are various schools offering lessons for the same. Else, you can head up to Phan Thiet harbour and enjoy a day of fishing and admiring the town’s scenic beauty. While here, you also have the option of hiking up to the Fairy Stream, with little hawkers selling knick-knacks along the way, and finally reaching the Red Canyon to enjoy a spectacular view. You can seat yourself here and enjoy a picnic!
5. Nha Trang (from USD 56)
Nha Trang is easily among the better known and more popular of Vietnam’s towns. Decorated with a sweeping stretch of glittering beachfront and tree-lined promenades that house some of the best dining, shopping, and partying options, Nha Trang makes for a blissful union of the laid-back and fast-paced. The city is blessed with golden sunshine for most parts of the year and its picturesque beaches, overlooking turquoise waters of the East Sea, against a backdrop of lush offshore islands make for stunning experiences. Plus, there’s a ton of activities, such as snorkelling, scuba diving, cannonballing, and mud bathing to indulge in! Tran Phu Beach is Nha Trang’s largest and most popular beach with plenty of touristy activities, whereas the beaches near Hon Chong Promontory are rife with activities infused with a local flavour. So, choose the kind of experience you’re looking for and head there.

6. Hoi An (from USD 106)
If quietude and seclusion from crowds is what you’re looking for, Hoi An is the place for you. A pleasing blend of Vietnamese, French, Chinese, and Japanese architecture make up Hoi An’s skyline, making it very much an old-worldly town. While its markets and the commercial scene is not too big, the city’s natural beauty is simply excellent. And, for some beachy fun, head to An Bang Beach to enjoy the quaint and the quiet – there’s no loud music blaring from beach bars, no jumpy camera-toting tourists, and no hawkers creating a racket – it’s all wonderfully peaceful!

7. Doc Let (from USD 86)
Reasonable pricing for bungalows with stunning sea views.
Snorkeling, kayaking, and eco-friendly initiatives. Limited Wi-Fi and no air conditioning.
Off the beaten track, isolated island with crystal clear waters and beautiful beach.
Delicious, albeit limited, set menu with pricey options. Challenges with accommodating dietary requirements.
Low-key, serene, beautiful – that’s loosely summing up Doc Let’s beaches. With the city’s beach bay stretching across 18km (11 miles), the beach scene at Doc Let is simply one of the most refreshing experiences in Vietnam. No matter which beachfront hotel you choose, your morning alarm in Doc Let will be glistening sunshine and lulling you to sleep would be gentle sounds of the waves. The northern part of the bay is where you can enjoy some typically touristy activities such as beach volleyball, snorkelling, kayaking, sunbathing, etc., but it is the southern, Jungle Beach that is the real winner with its scenic landscape and relatively lesser commercialization. Although, this is fast changing. Head to Doc Let before the scene changes too much.
8. Binh Dinh (from USD 50)
Lying along the south-central coast of Vietnam is Binh Dinh, blessed with a typical tropical monsoon climate for the most part of the year, which makes for a perfect accompaniment to spending time outdoors. Its long beach coast, lagoons, bays, coral reefs, sand dunes, and lush greenery are pretty much the reason why Binh Dinh should find a place on your travel bucket lists. While outdoors, you can go trekking, kayaking, or simply chill at the beach.

9. Phu Quoc Island (from USD 49)
Nestled in the Gulf of Thailand is Phu Quoc Island, an enchanting blend of tranquillity and activity. It is about 40km (25 miles) from the southern coast of Vietnam and it is considered the largest island of the country. It was once a simple fishing village, but it has now gained immense popularity for its tropical climate and calm atmosphere. You’ll find Phu Quoc slightly more expensive than other tourist destinations in Vietnam, but that’s probably owing to the island’s popularity among travellers. Making for one of the best experiences here is hitching an 8-km (5-mile) long cable car ride from Phu Quoc to Pineapple Island and soaking in some of the most sumptuous views of the islands and area. Else, go in for snorkelling or diving to explore the mystical world of marine life underwater and the colourful coral reefs.

10. Ly Son (from USD 12)
An entirely remote and striking getaway destination is Ly Son, a volcanic island surrounded by a ring of reefs. In contrast to the other Vietnamese cities and their beaches, the experience in Ly Son is slightly different. The beachfront here is not about long, sandy stretches, dotted with palms, but coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, striking crater-top views, and a mesmerizing landscape, all against a backdrop of some of the most unique rock formations. Here, you can hike to the island’s volcanic craters, rent yourself a motorbike and explore Ly Son, take a dip in the waters of the sea, do snorkelling in the reefs, or just luxuriate underneath the Ly Son sun!
