Spain! Most outsiders see this country for its craze for football, flamenco, and bullfight. But not many people know that Spain features some really exceptional beaches; some of which are in fact, comparable with the Caribbean. Okay let’s be fair, even if people know that Spain has beaches; how many beaches do they know other than Ibiza. Besides, Ibiza is an island that comprises world-famous beaches, there is no beach by the name ‘Ibizia’. Hence, we have prepared this index to show you the beautiful beaches in Spain, and we are sure that it will open your eyes to the country and its coastal treasures. The list will come handy for your next vacation or honeymoon plan.

1. Cala Comte, Sant Josep de sa Talaia

We believe that our readers would’ve guessed Ibiza already since we’re naming the best beaches in Spain. Thus, we’re beginning this index with a breathtaking location from the south-west of this island. Cala Comte beach is an awe-inspiring sight by the virtue of turquoise water, golden sand, and the little crowd. Although there are many coves nearby, three are considered important. All are worth visiting but be advised as the western cove is an unofficial naturist beach. Also, skip afternoon swim session in deep areas to avoid jellyfish hazard. This natural paradise comes within the municipality of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia.

2. Cala Agulla, Islas Baleares

Because we know that you would be craving for more beaches on that White Island, we had to include another (but not the final) Ibiza location. Please have a look at Cala Agulla, the largest and perhaps the most beautiful beach on the eastern tip of Ibiza. It’s located to the north of Cala Ratjada town, which is at the most a 15-minute walk. This beach boasts water in every shade of blue, and white fine sandy shore. Fortunately, this beach is safe from jellyfishes, but because of this advantage, it gets very crowded too.

Although this heading is meant to discuss just the beach but take our words, Bolonia has a lot more to offer. The location has been listed frequently in magazines and tourism sites as Europe’s top destination. This 4-kilometers (2.5 miles) stretch shows charms like Gran Duna or the great sand dune, the ruins of Baelo Claudia - a roman archaeological excavation, natural pools of Ancón, and more. And we have just one word for the beach section - pristine, all thanks to the endeavors from Estrecho Natural Park. Playa Bolonia is situated 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the municipal of Tarifa.

4. Playa de Las Catedrales, Galicia

Visit this location once and you’ll know that the Spanish syntax is correct, which literally translates as ‘the beach of the cathedrals’. This National Geographic level picture of the many giant rock formations indeed makes the beach look like a mythological place. While you can still visit and swim between the arches during high tide as the rocks would be breaking the flow, a low tide should be the better time of your arrival. During which, you could get into several spectacular caves and arches that are hidden much deeper normally. Since the entry is limited to a certain number; a reservation is recommended.

5. Playa del Silencio, Asturias

Playa del Silencio is a must-visit when you’re touring the northern shoreline of Spain, people even claim this to be the most beautiful beach of the western coast of Asturias region. It’s a pebbled shore which is surrounded by cliffs, thus it feels totally secluded. In fact, the phrase Playa del Silencio also translates to silence beach. However, be advised that isolation comes with a price; there wouldn’t be lifeguards, restrooms, or restaurants nearby you. And, please take notice that this beach is occasionally visited by naturalists too. If you’re still good to go, take along your fishing gear since it’s a great spot.

6. Playa de la Magdalena, Santander

Note down a pretty location in the province of Cantabria as well, Playa de la Magdalena is located at a short walk from the town center of the port of Santander. To get to this beach, you’re required to get to the southern section of the Magdalena Peninsula that opens to the Santander Bay. The beach is famous for leisure and the water is calm, you would be seeing more tourists sunbathing than swimming here. When you’re done with the beach, you should visit the open-air marine park of this peninsula; which is the home for the sea lion, penguin, and more marine animals.

7. Beach of La Concha, San Sebastian

If there will ever be a list for the signature city beaches, La Concha will be ranking high on that. This crescent-shaped beach is situated in the city of San Sebastián, much near to the border of France. Although the previous beach was also a city location, La Concha is cleaner, and thus attracts more tourists. Even on the days when the weather isn’t very favorable, you will be seeing tourists all along its curve. There isn’t any reason to worry, after all, the water is shallow and the lifeguards are always on duty.

8. Playa De Las Canteras, Las Palmas

Far from mainland Spain, you will find this beach on Gran Canaria Island; which happens to be the second-highest population zone in Canarias archipelago. Playa de Las Canteras is the most renowned urban-beach of this island, and because of its enormously long shoreline, you wouldn’t feel packed. The sand is dark, also there aren’t any coves here, but Playa de Las Canteras is best suited for aquatic sports. The waves coming straight from the Northern Atlantic make surfboarding possible. This is the first surfing beach that we have listed here.

9. Cala Portinatx, Illes Balears

Cala Portinatx is a remote and secluded location in the far north of the island of Ibiza. This beach has got its name from the fishing village with the same name, and it is situated at the end of a narrow sea-inlet. This cove is known as the best snorkeling location, as the water is crystal clear and the average depth is just two meters (six to seven feet). However, Cala Portinatx is a poorly accessible village and the best way to get there is to hire a private car that would take almost an hour from the town of Ibiza.

10. Platja de Ses Illetes, Balearic Islands

We have reserved the concluding spot of our index for a very special beach, which is technically an extended sandbar. The beach of Platja de Ses Illetes is located at the south of Ibiza, between the islands of S'espalmador and Formentera. The stretch is nowhere beyond 50 meters (150 feet) in width, and the landscape is just picture perfect. The water is crystal clear as far as you can see, and it’s also very shallow. You got to trust us with this as this is the closest you could experience the Caribbean without leaving Europe.
