Chur to Pontresina

The journey from Chur to Pontresina is one of the most memorable journeys to enjoy once you board the train. Departing from Chur, the train first takes you to the breathtaking Reichenau before it goes further to the south towards Thusis and Tiefencastel. Along the way, you will be presented with incredible views of Domleschg valley, castles, and ruins, among others. Once it reaches Pontresina, you can marvel at the Upper Engadine Valley, a unique valley unlike other Swiss valleys, as it has a higher altitude.

Tirano to Lugano

Enjoy a different but equally unrivaled scenery of the southern Italian region. Instead of taking a train, you will take the Bernina Express bus ride from Tirano to Lugano. Favorite attractions that will take your breath away include Lake Lugano, Lake Como, and Valtelline Valley. One tip for you; you should sit on the left side to get the most fantastic views of the lakes.

Stop and see small villages

To get the best of your Bernina Express journey, you should not just remain on the train all the way to the arrival station. Instead, along the route that you take, you can make stops to see and explore the small villages because there are many. These villages are as pretty as the big cities. After all, this is Switzerland and everything in the country is ready to blow your mind away. After you are satisfied with exploring a village, you can simply board another regional train to continue with your journey across Switzerland.

Board early in winter months

If you like to travel in the snow, then it is most likely that you want to explore Switzerland during the winter months. If this is the case, you will want to board very early in the day. It gets dark quickly during winter in Switzerland. If you board the train a little bit late, you may not be able to admire all the spectacular vistas covered by the Bernina Express route.

Bring your own snacks

The Bernina Express train has a food and drinks cart. However, you may not find your favorite food or drinks on the cart. That is why it is always best to have your own snacks ready. While enjoying your food and drink, be sure to look outside the window to appreciate what mother nature has provided us with.
