This wildly popular drink, also known as boba tea or pearl milk tea, finds its origins in Taiwan but is savoured by peeps across the world. And Calgary is not behind in that race. Gong Cha sure knows its bubble tea and makes it spot on. Their teas have a good flavour - a strong hit of tea without being too milky. Plus, their creative concoctions, such as the lemon wintermelon with basil seeds or the milk foam black tea, are totally yummy too. QQ-passion fruit green tea is another one of their hot-selling items that you should try. Do note that Gong Cha has three outlets – one in Chinatown, Country Hills, and Crossiron Mills each – so you can easily lay your hands on a cup!

Another one of the best bubble teas that you should seek is the Chatime franchise. Their roasted milk teas are just spectacular! We’ve given details of just one, but there are multiple outlets of Chatime across the city. Also, remember that this place is all about drinks so bring your own snacks or grab some from elsewhere.

For a slightly upscale and not so casual haunt, try The Alley. They are also nailing their bubble teas to the T! The place has been done in an entirely chic manner, so it doubles up as a great location for business and formal meetings as well. As for their drinks, they manufacture their own tapioca pearls and sugarcane syrup for the bubble teas, which gives their drinks a unique taste and an edge over those you’ll find elsewhere. Plus, they don’t skimp on the fruit quantity either. Quite a posh affair, this one. Try it!

Presotea makes good bubble tea, but the vibes emanating from their cafe is just as good. Regardless of what time you head there, you’ll find it teeming with cliques discussing school problems, professionals catching up on industry gossip, and groups having a chill time together. If there’s one thing you’ll find in common with all the occupied tables are the tall glasses of roasted milk tea, which Presotea does an excellent job of making. Bangin’ flavours, brilliant service, and a terrific assortment of drinks, this pretty much sums up how fantastic INCHA Tea House is. This cafe is a favourite among regulars who find the outlet very conveniently located – about a minute’s walk from the Chinook Centre - and the bubble tea flavours par excellence. You might find it slightly pricier than the usual bubble tea outlets, but the quality of the drinks more than make up for it.
