6. The Canteen

If you are in the city and wondering about where to eat in Breckenridge, you must try visiting The Canteen. It is a locally owned and operated restaurant, specializing in modern comfort food, Colorado beer, handcrafted cocktails, and world-class wine selections. Their mac & cheese is out of this world. Mixed with four different kinds of cheese and Cheez-It crumbs (brilliant!), you won’t need a doggie bag for this dish.

While you await that heavenly delight, you simply must sip on a canteen ahhh rita. This is a margarita mixed with maestro dobel tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, and a dash of orange juice. Yes, a night at this casual dining restaurant will leave you pleasantly plump with happy memories and an eternal hankering for mac & cheese.

7. Blue River Bistro

Editor's Note: Photo taken from the establishment's official social account

Blue River Bistro offers you the best food in Breckenridge. The menu consists of two particularly delectable delights: Sunday brunch and evening dinner. Its seasonal wine and cocktail menu pair up nicely with absolutely all its Italian-American cuisine. Run, don’t walk, to their Sunday brunch offering the most decadent French toast and delicious afternoon mimosas. Their French toast is made with french bread browned in cinnamon-spiced egg batter, caramelized apples, and pecans.

Now, for the best part - their dinner menu. Truthfully, there are several “must-haves”. But, the braised pork shank and Atlantic salmon are definitely chart-toppers. The pork shank is slow-roasted in a garlic and pinot noir demi-glace, served with a tarragon-peppadew polenta cake. The salmon comes in a tequila-cotija cream, served atop a bed of citrus jasmine rice and sautéed spinach. That expression about flavor explosions definitely applies here at Blue River. If you’re in town for a few nights, something tells me you’ll be treating Blue River like it’s your kitchen table. Cheers!

If you are touring the city and wondering about where the locals eat in Breckenridge, you must visit Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant. Sister to Hearthstone Restaurant, you just know a flavor sensation awaits you here. This is actually touted as a fan favorite for locals. You can’t leave here without munching on some tortilla chips dipped in their freshly made guacamole.

For dinner, this is one of the hardest, eclectic menus to choose from. Some of the plates you can’t go wrong with are the garlic chili shrimp tacos, the pork and mango burrito, and the tamale sampler. Cap this off with a slice of tres leches and you’ll be so stuffed they’ll have to roll you home. That’s okay. 9. Breckenridge Brewery & Pub

Breckenridge Brewery & Pub is the third-oldest craft brewery in Colorado. They offer some really unique and creative drink menus. They’ve categorized them into various “series”. There are some really awesome selections such as the seasonal batch - offering a Christmas Ale, a Summer Pils, and an Autumn Ale - which is funny since Breckenridge tends to only have two seasons: 10 months of wintery snow and two months of summer.

The brewery’s barrel-aged and specialty singles are particularly delightful. See if you can get your hands on the barrel-aged imperial cherry stout or the well built. Likewise, the nitro series is incredibly refreshing. You know you just want to try that orange cream ale. Stop by one evening and enjoy a tasty flight of beer, or scoop up that orange cream in a can.

It’s probably not much of a stretch to say that Daylight Donuts has the freshest, tastiest, fluffiest, happiest donuts this side of Homer Simpson’s desk. You are absolutely going to want to run down here in the morning and bring some daylight delights back up to your room. While the glazed donuts of this friendly restaurant are tender enough to make you weep, you’re also going to want to toss a few of their sausage rolls in your to-go bag. They probably knew it would be wise to formulate some delicious coffee to go with those donuts. Rest assured they achieved that goal, too.

13. Empire Burger

While everyone comes here for a burger at some point - and I mean everyone - we have to start with the most shocking burst of goodness on Empire Burger’s menu: their dipping sauces. Once you dip your fries into that sweet mango chutney sauce, you’ll never be able to stomach a mere splash of ketchup on your fries again. They’ve somehow managed to pair sweetness and spice into this rich and creamy sauce that, I promise you, will blow that ski cap right off your head.

Once you’ve resolved to add one - or three - sides of mango chutney to your order, you simply must try the guacamole bacon burger or the mushroom Swiss burger for a flavorful experience. These are the juiciest, most flavorful burgers to ever pass your lips. Bring your drumsticks, my friends. When you dip into that mango chutney sauce, you’re going to resemble that little heart-eyed emoji on your iPhone.
