2. Strand Art Gallery

In the heart of Brixham lies one of the largest and oldest art galleries in the West of England. The Strand Art Gallery has been part of Brixham for 50 years and currently holds more than 400 paintings in its collections, the majority coming from local artists! Any day you can pop in and even see some of the artists at work and ask them questions about their art!

One of Brixham’s most popular attractions is the Golden Hind Museum Ship! A perfect place to bring the children to this exact replica of the original Golden Hind, which was commandeered by one of England’s most famous explorers, Sir Francis Drake. 7. Brixham Battery

One of the truly hidden gems of Brixham is Brixham Battery. Dating back to the 1780s, it is a scheduled monument and offers stunning views of the coastline, and a good afternoon walk, but the museum is said to be a very enriching and hands-on experience. With the staff dressed in the historic WW2 uniforms, they have extensive knowledge of Brixham Battery, and you are encouraged to touch and explore the Battery, even holding some of the WW2 weapons to see how heavy they were and get a feel of what it was like for the 250 soldiers that were based there. If you are deeply interested in history, then this is a fantastic museum to visit!

Last on my list is the Brixham Heritage Museum. Residing in the old Brixham police station, the Brixham Heritage Museum has remained at the heart of Brixham, keeping its history alive through many of the events and exhibitions they hold, such as Brixham Heritage Week. They hold an extensive college in regards to the Napoleonic Forts on the Berry Head Trail, including complete Victorian model rooms!
