5. Millard Fillmore House

The Millard Fillmore House holds historic importance as it was once the residence of the 13th president of the United States. It was constructed in 1826. The house was originally built on the Main Street adjacent to the Aurora Theatre. It stood there for numerous years of negligence until the artist Margaret Evans Price happened to lay her eyes on the house and instantly was captivated by its charm. She decided to purchase it and shift it to the current location and renovate it as her studio in 1930.

The house was then acquired by The Aurora Historical Society in 1975, restored back to its former state as constructed by the former president. Visitors can find the furniture and artifacts belonging to the president and his family that provide insight into the former president’s life.

6. Elbert Hubbard-Roycroft Museum

Elbert Hubbard was a writer, philosopher, publisher, and founder of Roycroft which is one of the most well-known Arts and Crafts societies in the US. This house which is called Craftsman Bungalow was later donated by Gladys Scheidemantel to the Aurora Historical Society in 1985.

Currently the house is a museum and houses collections of Roycroft pieces: handsomely bound books, furniture, paintings by Alex Fournier and leather work by George Scheidemantel. In the one-hour tour, one can learn more about Elbert Hubbard’s lifestyle and his accomplishments and the history of the Roycroft Arts & Crafts Movement against the Industrial Revolution.

8. Aurora History Museum and Town Archives

The Aurora History Museum located in East Aurora comprises of Native American objects from Aurora and objects belonging to the community’s original colonizers. The Aurora History Museum and Town Archives were shifted in concurrence with the repositioning of the town’s municipal offices from the Roycroft Chapel to the previous Southside School in the fall of 2012. The Rix Jennings frescoes, which chronologically express the tales of Aurora’s antiquity, are on display in the foremost corridor outside the Municipal Center.

10. Roycroft Campus

The Roycroft Campus which was home to the Arts and Crafts Movement in the East Coast was first established by Elbert Hubbard and is contributes educational programs, artisan classes, collaborating proceedings and social congregations to supplement, encourage and reserve the historic Roycroft Campus.

It is one of the well preserved and looked after buildings from the 19th-century which does not look a day old. The entire complex has evolved over the years as a hub for craftsmanship. The campus comprises of fourteen buildings which include the Roycroft Chapel, the Roycroft Inn, the Print Shop, the Copper Shop and the Furniture Shop to name a few which were covered under the National Historic Landmark Act in 1986.
