Just outside of California’s capital of Sacramento, there is plenty to do in Elk Grove. Originally known for its agriculture, Elk Grown has blossomed with new businesses, parks and activities. 1. Surf Xtreme


Catch the waves inside with Northern California’s indoor double FlowRider, which brings the feel of surfing with the ride of snowboarding and the tricks of skateboarding. Visitors can bodyboard or stand and surf with instructors there to guide the motions. If surfing isn’t your style, the center also has paintball, trampolines, kids canvas and a makeover salon, so there are ways to get your extreme on without risking a plop in the water.

Take the day to new heights with this indoor trampoline park. From the Open Jump Area to the Slam Dunk Zone there’s something for everyone. Visitors can participate in dodgeball, stunts, foam battles or take a break from bouncing on a climbing tower. Weekends are filled with events like Rockin’ Fridays and Rockin’ Saturdays designed to mix, mingle and jump. 3. The Wrangler


Enter the Wild West at this saloon-themed tavern with an authentic country vibe. Each weekend is filled with live music from up and coming bands who aren’t your typical country-pop and will have your head nodding and foot tapping the entire night. There’s plenty of space for line dancing once the music gets going or head out back for a game of corn hole. From the old wooden floors to the branded door, this bar will transport you to a Southern hoedown.

5. Morse Community Park


Get outside and get active. This free public park has plenty of space with tons of activities for everyone to enjoy. Kids can splash around in the spray ground, labyrinth or skate park while adults have a pick-up game of basketball, baseball or soccer. There’s also a jogging trail, dog park, fitness area, bocce ball court and horseshoes. The park can be rented out for private parties or games for only 59 USD, so get out and play.

6. Emerald Lakes Golf Course

Play a round of nine holes at this public golf course. Owned and operated by the Cosumnes Community Services District since 2006, the course has continually undergone improvements in design making it challenging enough for the pro yet fun and easy enough for the beginner. The site offers lessons as well as Footgolf, a combination of soccer and golf, played on shortened holes with 21-diameter cups while following most of the rules of golf. It’s a twist on getting hole-in-one.

7. Pinot’s Palette

Follow along with an instructor as you create your best attempt of “Sunset Palms” or “Midnight Moon Glow” with a glass in your hand. They’ve created their own blends of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and more as well as their own special blends like 6 GenZen. Try a variety of wines at the tasting room from Friday-Sunday with live music from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday nights or join the wine club to have the bottles shipped right to your door.
