Located just minutes outside of New Orleans, Harvey, Louisiana is often overlooked as a travel destination. It’s hard to compete with The Big Easy, but Harvey has its own charm and plenty of fun activities. Whether you’re planning on staying in Harvey or you’re just looking to get out of the city, you’ll be sure to find enough to do to keep you happy. Not sure where to start? Look no further than this list of the five best things to do while you’re in Harvey.
1. Solve a crime while you eat at the Murder Mystery Company
There’s nothing quite like solving a fake crime. At the Murder Mystery Company, you can do just that, all while enjoying a three-course meal. From the moment you enter the building, you will be immersed in a two-hour-long theatrical performance, filled with plenty of intrigue and suspense. There are several different themes that are in the show rotation, like a masquerade and a 1950s prom night. Guests are encouraged (but not obligated) to dress up according to whichever themed show they’ll be attending.
If you’re traveling with a group of eight or more, take advantage of their private events. You can tailor your show based on how much graphic content you want (ranging from G to R ratings), and you can even choose to solve a crime without a murder. There are also child-friendly options for kids’ parties. You know this place must be pretty great if it attracts celebrities like Al Pacino, Beverly D'Angelo, and Fergie. Try it for yourself.

2. Remember your stay with some ink from Wicked 13 Tattoos
Editor's Note: Photo taken from the establishment's official social account
Commemorate your trip to the New Orleans area with a tattoo or piercing from Wicked 13 Tattoos in Harvey. Meet with a highly-qualified artist to discuss the perfect design for you. These artists have a combined 60 years of experience, so you can rest assured that they know what they’re doing.
If you want something a little less permanent, go the piercing route. There is a large variety of piercing options to choose from, including eyebrows, nose, naval, and nearly anything on the lips and ears. No matter which piercing you choose, each one should only take around 30 minutes. If you’d like to amp up your eyebrows, the shop also offers microblading, a technique that uses superfine needles to create hair-like marks on the skin to make brows look more defined and fuller. Wicked 13 Tattoos is cash only, but there’s an ATM in the shop available for your convenience.

4. Shop until you drop at Fountain Park Center

Get some serious shopping done at the Fountain Park Center, an 8-hectare (20-acre) commercial development equipped to fill all your shopping and dining needs. You can also find pharmacies, salons, clinics, and eye care. These aren’t the usual stores you might find in a typical mall. You’ll be able to shop at boutiques to help out the local economy a bit more.
Depending on the day, you might be able to catch some live music outside. And if you’re still playing Pokemon Go, this is one of the best places in the area to continue your quest to become the ultimate Pokemon Master. Enjoy a walk outside around the fountains, ponds, and well-manicured landscape. If nothing else, it can get pretty hot in Harvey. Shopping in air-conditioned stores can help with the heat.

Don't overlook Harvey
Harvey is, technically speaking, just a census-designated place, not quite a town or city itself. Don’t let that sway you from stopping by for a visit, though. Sometimes it’s nice to step out of the hubbub of a big city and spend some time in a quieter, less crowded area. When in New Orleans, there’s no better place to take a break at than Harvey, just across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. Even if your stay is only for a few hours, your trip is sure to be a memorable one.
