Bandera is home to the famous Frontier Times Museum, which was founded by J. Marvin Hunter. This vibrant destination is located on the Medina River, to the northwest of San Antonio’s city center. Each June, the city hosts Bandera Riverfest, an event that takes place on the Medina River, where locals and tourists come to enjoy live music, cook-offs, tubing, and kayaking. This place is also home to Dixie Dude Ranch and Mayan Dude Ranch, both of which are approximately 50 years old. The Lodge on San Julian Creek is also located in the ranch if you need a place to stay. The lodgings consist of limestone rock cottages that overlook the San Julian Creek and the surrounding woodland. These cottages are great places to relax after a long hunt.
