If you’re unfamiliar with lapidary art, it truly is a sight to see. Made out of gemstones, the art can take the form of engravings or faceted designs, which can then be made into mosaics, dioramas, cameos and others forms of art. At the Lizzadro Museum, they have all of these types of collections and much more.
The museum is open 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are 5 USD for adults, 4 USD for seniors, 3 USD for students and teens and 2 USD for children ages seven through 12. The best day to go is on Friday when admission is free!

For a fee, your group will be locked inside a themed room, such as a basement, a garage, or even a room inside the Titanic. Safari Land offers everything an indoor fun center would, including video games, bowling, and a game room, but it definitely crosses over with an amusement park. You’ll have a blast on the roller coaster and flight simulator. Safari Land is a great option near Elmhurst for a rainy day. The indoor park is open 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday through Sunday. Ticket prices can vary.

11. Stroll through the Elmhurst Art Museum
The Elmhurst Art Museum offers the usual rotating exhibits in sculpture, painting, interactive experiences and other art mediums, but it also has something special to offer. The museum owns a house built by the late architect Mies van der Rohe, which is the second of only three houses that he built in the United States. The house, called the McCormick House, represents Rohe’s minimalistic design and mid-century modern style.
The museum’s permanent collections include works by Peter Saul, Ellen Lanyon, Barbara Rossi and others. The museum is closed Mondays, but open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every other day. Admission is 9 USD for adults, 8 USD for seniors and free for everyone on the first Friday of each month.
