Right on the outskirts of San Antonio, there’s an interesting variety of things to do in Schertz. As a plus, it’s also near the town of Helotes and its attractions. From seeing animals in their natural habitat to public parks and nature parks to game centers and an amusement park, there’s a little something for everyone.

1. Check out the Animal World Snake Farm and Zoo

Yep, that’s right, a snake farm. While snakes and other reptiles and exotic mammals are a prominent part of this zoo, there are also many other interesting animals like birds, smaller mammals, big cats and more. There’s a list of all of their animals on the website with pictures! But it’s more than a zoo. They have interactive shows that allow visitors to get an intimate and up close experience with animals, conservation and other educational programs and they even have venues for birthday parties. As a bonus, the zoo has its own gemstone mine, the Two Rivers Mining Company, where visitors can pan for gemstones and minerals, fossils and even shark teeth.

3. Go to a public park

Pick one, any one, because there are several. It’s kind of hard to keep track of them all. There are 10 parks local to Schertz, some with playgrounds, picnic areas and walking areas and there’s a ballpark and a skate park; on top of that, there are a handfuls of parks surrounding Schertz, including Converse City Park, McAllister Park and more. McAllister park is a popular spot for taking dogs as there is fitness equipment for the dogs and while you’re there you can expect to see lots of wildflowers and possibly deer!
