1. Sunrise Theater
If you’re visiting Southern Pines, be sure to check the events at the Sunrise Theater, whilst here. Situated amidst the magnolias and longleaf pines on Broad Street, the theater itself is a historic building, which dates back to 1898! Having gone through numerous changes, it is now reopened and functioning as a performing arts center, showing independent films and all kinds of concerts.

2. Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities

In 1941, the author James Boyd bought and named this estate Weymouth and offered it to the public as a natural park for all to enjoy. Fast forward to the present day and now, this cultural center is dedicated to preserving the 26-acre (10.5-hectare) estate, which includes the gardens and a longleaf pine forest. Open every day, it also serves as a writer’s residency and performs concerts and recitals.

3. Pine Needles Golf Club

High ranking in the golf world, Pine Needles is a fantastic course to test golfers of all abilities. It has five featured holes and wide fairways, in great surroundings. Golfers have enjoyed this course for nearly a century but if golf isn’t your thing, you can also check out their spa facilities, or enjoy a super dinner at their restaurant.

4. Reservoir Park
If you’re looking for a place to chill out and enjoy nature’s sounds and sights then make time to visit Reservoir Park, in Southern Pines. There are stunning views of the reservoir from well-marked walking trails and there are also opportunities for fishing and boating. When you want a break, take a picnic with you and sit under the longleaf and loblolly pine trees and enjoy splendid views, all around you.

5. Creation Museum
For a museum with a bit of a difference, visit the Creation Museum in Southern Pines and wander around the plethora of carpentry tools, stuffed animals and history of the area. It is the owner’s private collection and it also has a Christian bookstore, a Taxidermy Hall of Fame and an Antique Tool Museum. Although it might not be to everyone’s tastes, the fudge and gift shop upstairs will be a real treat for both young and older visitors.

6. Southern Pines Brewing Company

If you’re a lover of beer, you’ll love to soak up the atmosphere and drink a few great beers at the Southern Pines Brewing Company. The bar is a great place to hang out with the friendly staff for drinks during happy hour or after dinner. Whatever time of the year you visit, there’ll always be something in bloom at the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens. Spread over 32 acres (12.9 hectares) of neatly designed gardens and sculptures, it makes for a great day out to enjoy the beauty of the gardens. If you’re feeling energetic, you can take a walk from here to Reservoir Park, or alternatively, simply relax and take in the peaceful surroundings.

10. Weymouth Woods
You won’t be disappointed with a visit to Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve, with its vast amount of longleaf pines, some of which are more than 100 years old. The natural habitat is home to the red-cockaded woodpecker, pine barrens tree frog, bog spicebush, fox squirrel and myriad wildflowers. There are many different trails to take, where you’ll pass through wetlands, over wooden bridges and alongside flora and fauna.
