12. Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge

Pelican Island has the honor of being the first National Wildlife Refuge in the United States of America. The refuge was established by former United States President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt with the intention of protecting the brown pelican, white pelicans, egrets and other birds from extinction through plume hunting, which is the hunting of wild birds to harvest their feathers. This history museum, which is one of the best destinations in town, has lots of exhibits and relics to observe and study the history of the Indian River Citrus industry. 15. McLarty Treasure Museum

On July 31, 1715, a fleet of 11 ships traveling from Cuba back to Spain got caught in a hurricane and got wrecked off of the Florida coast. This fleet, called the 1715 Plate Fleet, was carrying silver and left many treasures. McLarty Treasure Museum contains relics and artifacts that were found in the wreckage.
