14. Pay a visit to Bok Kai Temple

The Bok Kai Temple, one of the oldest Taoist temples in California, is a fascinating aspect of Yuba City’s history. California has a past rich with Chinese immigration, and Yuba City/Marysville is no exception. When the Chinese arrived in Marysville during the Gold Rush, they brought their culture, customs and religion with them, and erected this beautiful Taoist temple. Bok Kai Temple is the only one in the United States with Bok Eye - the god of the north who controls water and floods - as the central deity, which is poignant considering its position near the Feather River. It is a truly beautiful building with a rich history, and definitely worth a visit!
