Georgia is a beautiful country in Eastern Europe in the Caucasus Mountains. The country is bordered by Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in the South. The North is bordered by Russia. Although still unknown to most of the world, Georgia is well known in the Eastern Europe for its food, hospitality, and its breathtaking scenery. The country is very mountainous and perfect for anyone looking to go on a trek for the day or a week. No matter your level, beginner to advanced, there are treks for you to discover in Georgia.

1. Svaneti region

Svaneti is the Northern region of Georgia and surrounded by 3,000 (1,000) to 5,000-meter (16,500-foot) peaks. Svaneti is the highest inhabited area in the Caucasus and counts 4 of the 10 highest peaks of the Caucasus including the highest mountain in Georgia: Mount Shkhara culminating at 5,201 meters (17,059 feet). Other notable peaks in the region include Tetnuldi, Shota Rustaveli, Mount Ushba and Ailama to name a few.

Svaneti offers many trek routes, but the most popular is the four-day trek connecting Mestia to Ushguli. This trek offers stunning natural sights and historic sights. You do not need a tent for this specific trek as you can sleep every night in rustic villages (unlike most other treks). If you are looking for more than four days to trek, you can easily extend this adventure into two weeks and explore the less touristic areas of Svaneti. Note: You will meet quite a few tourists as this trek is very popular.
