Georgian food carries influences from European and Middle Eastern dishes. Some of the best restaurants in Eastern Europe and especially Russia are Georgian, a sign of how delicious this cuisine is although it is still mostly unknown in the rest of the world. Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia and home to some of the best restaurants in the country. Even if most restaurants in town will serve you great food, 11 of them really stand out from the rest for the quality of their food, selection of drinks and a true Georgian service.
Tsiskvili is one of those restaurants everyone will recommend you to go to and for good reasons! The restaurant is located out of the city center (about 10 GEL of taxi fare from the old town). The venue is separated in two floors and the upper floor is a smoking area. The restaurant offers a daily live performance at 8 p.m. of traditional Georgian music and dance show which adds a nice touch to the already cozy ambiance.
The food is simply to die for! The menu is very extensive and you can try the all time favorite khinkali (Georgian dumpling), mtsvadi (grilled meat skewer) and kupati (Georgian sausage). The service is typical Georgian, it might seem cold at first but the waiters are very friendly. Note however that most of them do not speak English which really adds to the “local immersion” experience. The in-house sommelier is very helpful and has a wide variety of local wines to accompany any of your dishes.
