1. Debre Libanos Monastery
The Debre Libanos Monastery dates all the way back to the 13th century, when it was founded by Saint Tekle Haymanot. It is believed that the beloved saint founded the monastery after meditating in a cave for 29 years. The church sits in a terrace near a gorge by the river, and you can even view a stunning waterfall. Its white domed roof is easily a distinguishing feature of the church, visible from many miles across the cliff. At the heart of the monastery is the spring said to have holy water flowing from it, which made it a pilgrimage site for many. 2. Rift Valley

5. Blue Nile Gorge

The Blue Nile Gorge is one of the most impressive geological sites around, formed from the Blue Nile river cutting through the rock. Some of the gorges formed here are almost 1500 meters (5000 ft) high, rivaling the USA’s famous Grand Canyon. You’ll travel through the scenic Road 3, a long and winding road that connects Addis Ababa to the northern towns of Ethiopia. A pair of bridges cross the Blue Nile at the bottom of the gorge, one for vehicular traffic, and the other for pedestrians. From this bridge, you’ll appreciate the size and grandeur of the canyons, which are easily at the top of any list of the must-sees here.
6. Lalibela
Lalibela is one of the most popular religious cities in Ethiopia among Christians, which is made more special by the fact that the country was one of the first countries to embrace Christianity. The 11 rock-hewn churches of the city are the most famous and visited sites here. These underground cathedrals are some of the most unique in the world, the most iconic being the St. George church. This majestic church was built in the 13th century, and takes the shape of a cross from above. The churches here are now a world heritage site, which adds to its historical value.
7. Church of Adadi Mariam

8. Wenchi Crater Lake
The Wenchi Volcano is the highest volcano in the country, rising 3353 m (11,000 ft) above sea level. You’ll see rolling plains, lush forests, and even some small villages. You’ll either hike or ride on an animal on the last leg of the journey to the summit. At the top of the volcano is the crater lake, which is very rich in vegetation and natural features. You’ll ride a boat across the lake and pass by the islands in the center of the lake. One of the islands even has a monastery on it. 9. Menagesha Suba Forest

The Suba Menagesha National Park is one of the richest areas of land in the country. Located just west of Addis Ababa, the trees here are centuries old, especially those nearer to the top of the hill. There are many trails you can take through the forest, some as long as 9 km (5.6 mi). You might even catch a glimpse of some unique wildlife here. Be on the look out for yellow-fronted parrots, black-winged lovebirds, and colobus monkeys on your trek here. This trek will surely be more than your typical zoo experience!
10. Omo Valley
