Cut fresh trails on newly fallen snow, ride a snow cat to a remote mountain peak for a fondue experience, or carve your way through one of many mountain trails aboard a snowmobile. Regardless of your skill or experience, a new and fun adventure awaits you in the Whistler, British Columbia, Canada backcountry with a tour from Canadian Wilderness Adventures.

Adventure awaits on snowmobiles

Snowmobiling in the Callaghan backcountry

Located on the lower level of Carleton Lodge in Whistler Village, the small group of professional adventurers know how to provide you with a safe, but thrilling, adventure. All equipment and training are provided by the guides before you take off on a fun-filled adventure in either the Callaghan or Blackcomb Mountain areas.

Traverse frozen lakes through fresh snow aboard a snowmobile while exploring old growth forests and amazing vistas. Guides learn about your experience and skill before guiding you on gentle family trails or advanced backcountry riding outings.

Rates start at 129 CAD (88.65 USD) for shared rides or 169 (116.14 USD) CAD for single riders.

Try the signature Whistler Fondue Experience

The fondue table

The mountaintop fondue experience atop the 6,000 foot (1,828.8 m) Blackcomb Mountain is an exclusive Signature Experience in Whistler, available by snowmobile or snowcat. A 19-passenger snow cat picks you up at the base of Blackcomb Mountain and carries you to the top in heated comfort. At the Crystal Hut, you will be treated to a hearty and delicious meal, professionally prepared by a local chef, of a traditional fondue dinner with wine. Freshly baked fruit pies prepared in the wood fired oven spread their aroma as they come out piping hot.

Afterward, sit around the blazing fire or capture a few pictures of the scenic alpine colors and panoramic vista of Whistler Village below. Local up-and-coming musicians provide live entertainment to guests as you relax and enjoy the evening before heading back down the mountain.

Rates start at 189 CAD (129.89 USD) per person.

Mush a team of dogs

Let the dogs run the trail

For a unique experience, try your hand at dog sledding. A team of eager and powerful dogs awaits the opportunity to hitch up a sled and show you how they have fun in the snow. Professional mushers show you how to harness and stage the dogs. The teams of 6-8 dogs are highly trained and love attention as much as they love running. You will learn mushing commands and how to handle the sled before you depart on your adventure.

Each sled pulls two – three people depending on weight. Take a rest at an abandoned trapper’s camp on Totem Lake as you learn about the history of Canadian fur trappers. The open and winding trails provide a memorable winter experience for all ages.

Rates are 189 CAD (129.89 USD) per person with a minimum of two people required.

Try a snowshoe or cross country ski trail

One of the many groomed trails

Lace on a pair of snowshoes or cross-country skis and take to one of the many backcountry trails for a physically challenging workout with great rewards as you find giant cedar, fir, and hemlock trees along the Medicine Trail. Learn about the history of the trappers that used these trails years ago. You finish at the caboose for a refreshing snack by a cozy fire.

Rates are 89 CAD (61.16 USD) for adults.
