When it comes to finding a beach getaway destination, you would probably think of a more popular Southeast Asian country such as Thailand rather than Vietnam. Yet, here lies so many options for your next tropical vacation. Ha Long Bay is probably the most popular option, but what is a getaway without the seclusion and peace?
In this article, let me introduce you to Hue’s hidden gem: a secluded beach located in Phu Thuan Village. This beach offers a peaceful ambiance where, from my own experience, no commercial tourist would even glance on. Don’t take it the wrong way, it does not mean this beach is not worth it. It is just located further away from touristy areas, which actually gives you more reason to visit.

There's a chance you will have the beach to yourself

When I said secluded, hopefully, you did not picture a beach miles away from the city, because Phu Thuan Beach is only minutes away from the main road. This is why I was surprised to find that there was no one else at the beach except for me and my partner. If there are plenty of options around Vietnam, why should you pick this beach as your getaway destination? The answer is simply its peaceful ambiance where you can enjoy quality time with yourself, nature, or your loved one. Feel the soft sand underneath your feet as you run around playfully or walk the coastline quietly.
Avoid visiting this area, or Vietnam generally, during the rainy season (October to December). But if you decide to come anyway, as I did, you don’t have to worry about getting soaked from heavy rain because there are several beach cafes available in this area where you can stay dry, wait for the rain to pass while enjoying a drink or two in the meantime.
The Beach Bar Hue: the name says it all

If you dig through some reviews online, you will find that The Beach Bar Hue is the most visited beach cafe in the area. And it did not disappoint. You can feel the island vibe as soon as you walk in. There are plenty of options and numbers of seating available here, from the conventional cafe table to the authentic bamboo bench. Good news for digital nomads too as some of their seating come with a power outlet so you can work in peace without having to worry about your laptop battery running out. And when you suffer from a writer’s block, get one of the books from their small library to unwind and rejuvenate your mind.
Wide range of food and beverage choices

Being so secluded, with no other commercial establishment around, you will not expect the menu Beach Bar Hue has to offer. You get to choose from Vietnamese food, western pub food, seafood, to BBQ. When it comes to drinking, all kinds of cocktails are also available here. And did I mention that the price of booze and liquor in Vietnam is cheap?
The price for one glass of cocktail starts from around 50.000 VND (approximately 2.2 USD). I suggest you choose the classic beach cocktail, Piña Colada. So refreshing! As for food, the price for the main course starts from around 80.000 VND (approximately 3.5 USD) like the cheeseburger I had (it comes with fries too!). The taste was surprisingly good, way better than I expected. Succulent patty, soft buns, crispy fries, all you ever want from a burger.
Perfect place to relax and unwind

Overall, The Beach Bar Hue at Phu Thuan Village offers the ultimate beach getaway experience. You will have your comfort, peace, and tasty food to keep you happy while you spend your time here. The Beach Bar Hue is located by the beach, even some of the seating sit on the soft sand. You can easily spend your whole day here working, reading, relaxing, swimming, and playing at the beach.
Google Maps will take you there

As mentioned before, most tourists don’t even bother to come here because of its secluded location, away from the touristy area, way east of Hue’s city center. To get here, follow the big main road (QL49 on Google Maps) all the way to Thuan An area. This road will take you to the northeast of the city center first because the only way to get to this part of Hue is through the Cau Thuan An bridge, which is located northeast of the city center. From there, take the Duong 49B (QL49B) to the left and keep following the main road through the cemetery. Yes, you read that right, this beach is located beyond the cemetery. I myself thought I was lost, but all you have to do is follow the directions Google Maps gives you and you will find a big banner that says “The Beach Bar Hue” guiding you through the rest.
Right next to an empty field by the cemetery, you will find a road leading to an entrance, this is the entrance of The Beach Bar Hue, as you can see on the photo. There is a reception desk inside where you need to get your entrance ticket. The ticket is free with 150.000 VND (approximately 6.5 USD) food and beverage purchase at the cafe per person, which is basically one meal and one drink worth of purchase. However, you need to pay the 150.000 VND (6.5 USD) upfront at the reception desk before they let you in. This ticket-voucher can be redeemed at the cafe and cannot be refunded. If your order exceeds this amount, you only have to pay the difference at the cafe. Remember to keep your bills, because you will need to show them to the reception desk when you leave.
A little effort for a huge reward
Of course, there are other beaches you can go to around Hue, or other areas of Vietnam, which may be the easier option. But those are also more popular options among other tourists. This means you are likely to share your peaceful moment with the crowd. If you want a good quality peaceful time, Phu Thuan Beach is your ideal option. It does require a little extra effort to get there, but you will be rewarded with everything it has to offer.
