Pensacola is the western-most city in the state of Florida, and it has a pretty interesting history. The Spanish settled in the area in 1559, and they are actually the first Spanish who settled in the borders of the continental United States. The area was originally home to the Muskogean-speaking people who lived there before the settlement of Europeans. in 1698, the Spanish established a fort in the area and soon thereafter, the area grew in population. Over the course of the city’s history, five different governments claimed ownership of Pensacola. The city is home to plenty of great things to check out during the year, including plenty of festivals, events, historic tours, and even historic landmarks that still stand. Tourists flock to Pensacola yearly, and if you’re looking to visit and buy some unique and quirky items, check out this list of the best flea markets in Pensacola, Florida.
