Cherokee serves as the capital of Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation and is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The town is surrounded by open spaces and that has made way for the extensive Fire Mountain Trails, ideal for both biking and hiking. Oconaluftee River flows through the town and is a popular spot for canoeing, fishing, and light swimming. Visit Museum of the Cherokee Indians to gain insight into the original settlers and experience their art. Families must spend a day at Oconaluftee Islands Park where they can picnic, hike and swim. The outdoors are best explored when you leave the hotels behind and venture into nature. Glamping allows you to experience the outdoors in a more luxe setting, with hot tubs and wine.
