Visit Museum of the Cherokee Indians to gain insight into the original settlers and experience their art. Families must spend a day at Oconaluftee Islands Park where they can picnic, hike and swim. The outdoors are best explored when you leave the hotels behind and venture into nature. Glamping allows you to experience the outdoors in a more luxe setting, with hot tubs and wine. 7. Secluded mountain-top yurt

Located on top of a mountain near Soco Falls, visitors enjoy the most spectacular views of the valley from the brink setting. The yurt is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and its scenic trails and is easily one of the best spots from which to experience the Great Smoky Mountains.
