How to reach the Andaman Islands

Despite its geography and remote location, the Andaman Islands are well connected to the rest of mainland India and the neighboring countries of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Myanmar. You can travel here via domestic flights to Port Blair from Indian metropolitan cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi.

Alternatively, you may reach the island via sea travel if you’re lucky enough to catch one of the ferries that cut through the waves to Port Blair from Kolkata, Chennai, or Visakhapatnam. Though the ferry timings are odd and the islands are quite a distance away, many nature lovers will enjoy traveling by sea.

After arriving in Port Blair, you’ll have to hop on another ferry to get to most of the islands.

Best time to visit

Thanks to moderate temperatures year-round, travelers can visit the Andaman Islands anytime barring the monsoon months. December to March is the best time to visit the area, as the weather is warm and sunny. These are also the best months to perfect your diving form and see underwater life. Even better, you might see turtles nesting in North Andaman and Middle Andaman.

If you’re a budget traveler looking to visit the region, April, May, October, and November will be ideal for your trip. Although the weather won’t be as idyllic or predictable, accommodation prices are lower and crowds are thinner.

June and July should be avoided due to heavy rains and unfavorable weather conditions.
