The area around Hamanako is known for having a very dry wind blow blessing it with clear skies for most of the year. On the shores of Lake Hamanako there stands a single tall building, Hamanako Royal Hotel, where every room overlooks Lake Hamanako and is the perfect spot to watch the sunset. What kind of sunset?

We give you the sunset and scenic view from Hamanako Royal Hotel.

A lake resort area

This is the Hamanako Royal Hotel.

An hour and half away from Tokyo on the Tokaido Shinkansen to Hamamatsu Station. From there a 10 minute train ride on the Tokaido Honsen to JR Maisaka Station. A quick 10 minute shuttle bus from there and you arrive at the hotel.

This hotel which stands on the eastern shore of Hamanako has a total of 391 rooms. It is a large resort hotel with all floors between the fifth and thirteenth floors taken up as guest rooms which all boast a fantastic view of the lake.

Every room is an observation post

This is the view from the room.

The lake seen here is Lake Hamana. This lake is the tenth largest lake in Japan, and what you see in the middle is the Hamanako Ohashi Bridge. This sight is unique to Hamanako with a bridge cutting across the middle of a lake. The feeling of freedom you get from this view of the gradually changing blue hues from sky to water is spectacular to say the least.

This isn’t all you get though, with Enshunada Beach in the distance and on the left you will find the cityscape of Yutocho all of which is a panoramic view so large it’s difficult to fit into a frame of a camera. This is the view from the tenth floor but all rooms have this view for you to relish in.

As we have shown this hotels’ pride is its view.

To augment that the hotel borrows out binoculars when you check in if you ask for them at the front desk.

Through the binoculars you see cars moving by or a tanker floating on the horizon, things you can’t see with your naked eye. You won’t be able to stop looking.

It is surprisingly addictive so give it a try. It is free to borrow them so why not?

*When using binoculars do not look at the sun as it can damage your eyes.

A spectacular show put on by nature

In the evening if you face westward you can watch the setting sun.

As the evening wears on the surrounding area takes on a very red hue and is very touching. It only takes 30 minutes from the sky reddening until the sun fully sets but boy is it a show. This area has an especially beautiful sunset during the winter months as the cold western winds clear the air.

With so many clear sunny days and romantic scenery this might be the next place you will celebrate an anniversary or a special day. The alluring thing here is that you don’t have to travel anywhere and you can just experience this setting sun from the warmth and comfort of your room.

This sight is from the room facing Enshunada Beach, but if you aren’t facing the sunset you can head to the window at the end of the hallway on each floor to watch the sun sink slowly into the horizon.

If seeing this sunset is a must on your list of things to do here make sure you check with the hotel to get the room facing west. (The contact information or the hotel is located in the link in the memo section below)

A burst of color from nature

Even after the sun is fully set the lingering light is a sight not to be missed either.

The beauty in the orange and blues of the dusk is almost indescribable. The lights of city that light up as the first star is visible is also an amazing scenery as well.

There are a few hotels around Hamanako that can provide a view like this but unlike those the view from this hotel is uncluttered and pure.

In closing

The thirteenth floor here is also a restaurant and you can dine while enjoying the same view. Also, the bath at the Hamanako Royal Hotel is drawn from hot springs so you can really relax with a long bath.

Near the hotel there are attractions like the Hamanako Musicbox Museum, Flower Park Zoo, and the Unagi Pie Factory!

With such great relaxing views one can’t help but attain a state of Zen.
