The Lafayette is a great little place that charms guests with 1940s-style architecture. It is named as one of National Geographic’s places to stay in 2016 in San Diego and for the right reasons.

Although it is the furthest from San Diego Zoo in this list, at 1.6 miles (2.6 kilometers) away, the Lafayette Hotel is pretty much central and close to a big handful of other attractions. Bars and restaurants are also just around the corner.

You are provided with a free continental breakfast every morning after a good night’s rest in your comfortable bed. Internet is free. They also have an outdoor heated swimming pool and a hot tub, which they keep extremely clean. You can opt for a room with a private balcony, or a 1-bedroom suite that has a full kitchen. A note of caution though, as the hotel is situated near the hospital complex, there will be occasional siren noises.

Step out of the hotel onto Hillcrest and join in on their lively scene of bars, restaurants and even vintage stores. Have a tea break at Peet’s coffee with their signature coffee, tea or blended drinks with the company of freshly baked goods, or get your hipster game on at the vintage clothing stores Flashbacks and Buffalo Exchange.
