Suishotei in the Toi Onsen area is well known as one of the best hotels in western Izu. Out of the 21 rooms 17 have their own outdoor onsen baths, and the hotel is right in front of Suruga Bay so you have a great view from the hotel. In the summer you can take a dip in the sea as well as watch the fireworks shows. It is blessed with good weather for most of the year and most of the rooms have a great sunset view. If you are visiting the Toi area you should definitely spend a night here.
There are many attractive things here for women!
The first step you take into the inn you are greeted by an atmosphere of modern design. The first thing that is attractive to female guests is when you check in you are able to choose from brand name yukatas. You are able to choose amongst many styles and designs according to your tastes.
Another thing is the amenities in the room and the bathroom are really well stocked. There is cleansing lotion, BB cream, hair care products, as well as nanocare in some rooms. These plus the effects from the onsen hot spring water really does wonders for the skin.
In front of the big bath house there are 3 high end massage chairs that you can use for free. With these you can relax both body and soul. Afterwards you can unwind with some aroma therapy. If you get the therapy done in your room you can really relax fully.
"Yumeutsutus" the special top floor room
All the rooms have fascinating names. The top floor special room is called Yumeutsutsu (to dream lightly) to start with and others are called “Hohoende Mitsumete” (look upon with a smile), “Ei-en no Yakusoku” (an eternal promice), each is different so you can choose the best one for your plans while you stay.
The special top floor room “Yumeutsutsu” is the room that many famous celebrities stay at and is the pinnacle of luxury. Even the ceiling design is well thought out and very stunning. You can experience a very Japanese luxury design here. The room is spacious and the bathroom has 2 sinks, the toilet area is in tatami mat, and the outdoor bath has many functions of a normal modern bath.
An onsen and dinner for the discerning person.
After you had the hospitality Matcha tea and snack before dinner try out the hotel’s pride onsen bath. Other than the outdoor bath in the room there are 2 other outdoor baths in the building Iki no Yu and the Yume no Yu. The Iki no Yu and Yume no Yu baths both look over Suruga bay and if you are on the side where your rooms’ bath doesn’t have a sunset view you can should use one of these spacious baths. Many of the rooms have outdoor baths which could be the reason why these large baths are not crowded. If you are lucky you might be the only one there.
The dinner is made with locally caught seafood or vegetables from the surrounding mountains in kaiseki style. Each dish is prepared to perfection by a master chef. The meal has a variety of dishes each more tastier than the next. The coup de grâce was the spiny lobster dish. The freshly caught taste is something even rare in Tokyo.
After dinner and some rest taking a bath in the room’s outdoor onsen bath is the best way to relax. Since you can bathe any time of day you want, its really comforting for these winter months. The largest bath in the room, is 190cm in diameter so you can bathe with 2 adults and even have small children in the tub too for a fun family bath time. The best part is the privacy of such a large bath in your room.
An Izu feast for breakfast
Another great thing about this hotel is the breakfast is delivered to the room. It might be a pain to get up in the morning and get dressed to go eat. At Suishotei, a waitress comes and sets up your breakfast in your room so you can just take a bath while that is going on. To wake you up they first bring orange juice, a yogurt drink, and a milk pudding. Then comes the luxurious breakfast of dried and grilled Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) and Aji (horse mackerel), as well as some sashimi. The homemade tofu is creamy and flavorful. Each dish is so tasty it’s a great way to wake up. The freshly cooked rice is delivered in a big rice container. With so many dishes to go with rice you will probably over eat if not careful.
A 5 minute drive where you can see Mt. Fuji.
From Toi Onsen if you drive 5 minutes you come to a place where you can view Mt. Fuji in all its glory. Fuji with the sea in front of it is reminiscent of a bath house wall painting. The view changes based on the season and time of day so you see a different face each time.
In closing
Going to the western side of the Izu peninsula is a bit difficult because of the lack of many roads but because of that it is relatively quiet and filled with nature, relaxing all who visit. Near Suishotei is the world’s largest flower clock, Toi gold mine, and Two Lover’s Point. There are so many places to check out so we really recommend checking around the area after a stay here.
