1. Morehead Inn (from USD 298)
Morehead Inn is located in the historic Dilworth district and is housed in a 1917 colonial revival home. In 1917, Charles Campbell Coddington, an automobile distributor, and his wife hired William Peeps to design their residence. The couple moved in and turned it into one of the city’s most well-known hubs of hospitality.
Even after the death of the couple, the “Old Coddington House” withstood numerous storms, including Hurricane Hugo in 1989. It was a private residence until 1980 when it was bought and transformed into the Morehead Inn, a bed and breakfast, which opened in 1984. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Historic Properties Commission recognizes it as the neighborhood’s crown jewel. Its elegant, antique-filled rooms and suites have vintage furniture, soft mattresses, en-suite bathrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, and cable TVs.
