Located on 10th Street and Columbia, this historic hotel was once a stone fort known as Fort James. It offered protection to Chattanoogans during the Civil War. In 1909 the property started operating as The Colonial Hotel, a 16-bed facility. It would later be renamed the Stone Fort Inn. Several changes in ownership, furniture, and decor did not rob the property of its historical spirit and character.

2. The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel (from USD 160)
The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel dates to 1909, when the Terminal Station first opened its doors to the public. Just as the demolition crew was to embark on the task of demolishing the train station in 1973, a group of investors came to its rescue. They renovated the historic building and reopened it as a holiday complex.

3. The Read House (from USD 125)
The Read House was established in 1872, but the hotel’s rich history commenced in 1847 following the construction of Crutchfield House. An extension comprising the addition of a fourth story would take place in 1886 and a change of ownership. Samuel Read constructed a new hotel in 1925, changing its design.
After Read died in 1942, his heirs later sold the hotel, and more renovations took place in 1960, transforming it into a modern hospitality property. 4. The Mayor's Mansion Inn (from USD 259)
The Mayor’s Mansion Inn in Fort Wood, Chattanooga, was built in 1889 as Edmund Watkins’ private residence. Watkins later served as Chattanooga’s mayor following his election in 1897. His enterprising and energetic approach to developing the region earned him the mayoral post.
Edward Gould Richmond later purchased the house in 1901. Richmond was a wealthy man with business interests in land development, oil, and cotton.
