Chiang Mai was where we fell in love with Thailand. It has a lot calmer pace of life than Bangkok, or anywhere we've ever been before. It not only has amazing night markets but also offers a scenic hike (the Monk's Trail). We also had the best day with the elephants, so the city kind of has an unfair advantage there! Apart from the elephants, the food was great. My love for khao soi is unconditional and never-ending and I suggest you do yourself a favour while here and get yourself this dish for an authentic experience. The old town was also beautiful and it had the best views around, so make sure to visit it from your homestay accommodation.
