In the past, only airlines provided their passengers with privileges which assisted them with long layovers. Some had 24-hour airport lounges offering food, sleeping areas, bathrooms, showers and other amenities for their business or first class passengers. Nowadays, sleeping pods are becoming an increasingly common sight at major airports too, providing a privately enclosed bed priced by the hour. It is not surprising that hotels are also providing a similar service with their ‘Day Use’ deals.

Our connecting flight from Madrid was leaving late in the evening so we decided to give a ‘Day Use’ hotel a try. We came across this Day Use website and saw a listing of hotels with 'Day Use’ facilities. We picked Hotel Clement Barajas Airport for its proximity to the airport. As this was our first time, we contacted the hotel directly and made a reservation for the specific time we would use the room.

The Hotel

The Lobby

Hotel Clement Barajas Airport is a modern, four-star hotel located in Barajas district, just 2.5 km (1.5 m) from the Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. It’s available for ‘Day Use’ from 10 am to 8 pm, up to a maximum of 6 hours. The hotel’s advertised rate is 28 EUR (32 USD) for three hours and 35 EUR (40 USD) for six hours per room.

They offer a free shuttle bus ride to and from the airport. From any airport terminal (T1/T2, T3,and T4), walk to the bus stop designated for hotel shuttle buses. Then, contact the hotel and inform them that you are already at the bus stop; their shuttle bus will then pick you up. The bus drops guests to their sister hotel first, Tach Hotel Madrid Airport, and then goes to the Hotel Clement Barajas Airport.

When you arrive at the hotel, don’t forget to book the shuttle bus for your return to the airport. The shuttle bus leaves every thirty minutes.

The Room

Double Room at the Hotel Clement Barajas Madrid

From the facade of the hotel, it looked like an old industrial building, but wait until you go in. For ‘Day Use’, you get a private room with a comfortable double or twin bed, a TV, self-controlled airconditioning & heating, a wide working table, free internet access, toilet & bath, including all the amenities like a bathrobe, slippers, towels, toiletries, and dental kits. A card is left in the bathroom saying we can contact Housekeeping in case we need anything. The room and bath were recently renovated. It was very modern, sound-proofed, and sparkling clean.

Lovely Treat

Courtesy Minibar: What a delight!

We were pleasantly surprised that our ‘Day Use’ came with a lovely treat – a free minibar consisting of two bottles of water, a can of soda and a bottle of mango juice. We were really pampered at this hotel!

At the reception desk, we saw that their breakfast buffet was only 6 EUR (7 USD), which was quite reasonable considering the hotel rating. We did not try the breakfast but this enticed us to stay at the hotel for our next trip to Madrid.

Warm Welcome

The Lobby

We were very satisfied with the hotel. The service provided to us from check-in to check-out was excellent. The people at the reception area made sure that our experience was an enjoyable one.

Superb Hotel

We couldn’t have been happier with our choice. It’s a no-frills hotel, but the comfort it brings is what really counts. For our six hours of ‘day use’, we had a great sleep. Simply put, everything you need to recharge and relaxe for your onward journey is here!
