Colorado has a few of the grand old hotels still in operation from the boom days of the 1880s. That was a time when miners crammed into bars after payday and dance hall girls flirted the night away under towering Rocky Mountain peaks. Step back in time at the Hotel Jerome - part of the Auberge Resort Collections - to get a taste of mountain history and luxury in this Aspen classic.

Sophisticated blend of old and new

From the moment you enter the lobby of this iconic redbrick building, it is like taking a time machine trip 120 years into the past. Gaze around at the period antiques and paintings of the Rocky Mountain West and the colorful cast of characters.

Above the fireplace in the lobby is a painting of the original owner of the Hotel, Jerome Wheeler. After checking in, plan on spending some time drinking coffee, or something stronger and reading the Aspen Daily News in this comfortable lobby to get in the groove.

Expect comfort and quality

Your room will either be in the historic main part of the Jerome or the newer, “North Wing” which was added in 1985. Either way, expect comfort and quality to be your constant friend.

In the main part of Hotel Jerome walk, up the old staircase that makes sounds only old wooden staircases can muster setting the tone for your stay. An elevator is available also if the high altitude has you short of breath.

Luxury for you and your pooch

Choose a standard room, junior suite, or luxury suite for your stay. The standard deluxe king room averages 525 sq. ft./ 48.77 m2 and is primarily in the North Wing. The room comes with a love seat or lounge chair, 40" plasma TV, and Red Mountain views. A premier king room offers a bit more space, 545 sq. ft./50.6 m2 with mountain or town views.

Both standard room types come with bathroom that features a separate walk-in shower from an over-sized bath, double basin marble vanity and the much-appreciated all natural bath amenities. Other luxurious touches include Cashmere curtains, 400-thread count bed linens and twice daily housekeeping services on top of the usual 24-hour room service.

The in-room iPad and iPod docking station is certainly thoughtful and we are pleasantly surprised by picnic baskets for day trips. Dogs are welcome at Hotel Jerome and are pampered with JDog amenities that include gourmet dining options.

The sweet suite life

Stepping up to the junior suites will provide you with 650 sq. ft./60.4 m2 of accommodation space including a living room, and two queen beds or one king bed. Decorated with unique artwork and mountain views that color your outside world in crimson at sunset, you will love this choice. We know we did!

If your budget allows for one for the three types of luxury suites, then by all means choose from one of the following: One Bedroom Suite, Executive Suite, or The Presidential Suite. All three will spoil guests with special views separate living rooms, and leather sleeper sofas. The expansive Presidential Suite spanning 1,265 sq. ft./117.5 m2 includes a furnished dining area with dining table and chairs, and a wet bar with a mini-fridge.

Be pampered

The Hotel Jerome is ready to pamper guests arriving from near or far away. Most anything you desire is under one roof. Imagine soaking in the hot pool under a blue Colorado sky before lunch or dinner after a long journey … Simply divine!

For further indulgence, consider a visit to the in-house, Auberge Spa, where a diverse menu of treatments will rejuvenate and relax you. Try the Sanctuary of the Mountains Body Treatment featuring an evergreen forest massage to calm the body and mind.

Satisfy your palate

For drinking and dining, you are in for a treat. Visit the laidback J-Bar for the Jerome Burger and a brew, or during their popular happy hour for drinks and snacks. Hailed as the town’s social hotspot, this is the place to be. No prize for guessing what the ‘J’ stands for.

The Living Room, behind the lobby, provides an intimate stylish setting for couples or groups. Try a special blend of cocktail and enjoy a menu of exquisite fusion cuisine starting with a delicious appetizer such as the wok charred spicy edamame with shishito peppers, garlic and sesame.

Prospect - the upscale American bistro - stands out in particular for its local sourced Colorado favorites, such as lamb T-bones, or Colorado peaches-when in season. Beside classic favorites, executive chef Rob Zack also presents contemporary cuisine that aims to delight the most picky of tastebuds.
