If you want to explore the more traditional side of Chennai, get on a cab and head to Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur, about a 25-minute drive away from here. This temple dedicated to Shiva is one of the oldest in the city. The temple courtyard is really spacious here and you will see so many people from different walks of life in this space, praying to god in their own ways. I always get the sakkara pongal (a sweet dish made of jaggery and lentil) served here. The temple pond outside is quite big and you will find it full of water throughout the year. Unfortunately, there is no place to sit by the pond.
