1. Udderlicious Ice Cream

Udderlicious has two branches actually - one in London and the other at Covent Garden (some say it’s also in London but the website doesn’t explicitly say so!). And it has perhaps the most flexible menu as far as ice creams are concerned. Flavors are served here based on votes cast on the Udderlicious website from the previous month. They are then displayed at the counter alongside ice cream cakes sold per website order. Minimum order is two scoops per cone or a cup.

Gelato in London! Italian-style ice cream in this side of London is right up Amorino’s alley. While chocolate-based flavors are classic choices, the flavors that get the good ratings are the lemon sorbet and the stracciatella. Some variants are served with macarons to complement the full flavors that bloom on the sugar cone. Yes. Bloom! Because ice cream is not only good for your palette but good for that Instagram post.

3. Greedy Goat Ice Cream

Ice cream is often made creamy by dairy products like milk and cheese. When both ingredients are by-products of goat milk, it makes ice cream enthusiasts curious to taste it. Those who are familiar with the taste of goat cheese though will appreciate the way Greedy Goat Ice Cream’s products have maintained this taste by not using overpowering flavors. You can take home some pints in the colorful cute containers from their Borough Market branch.

4. Gelupo

Cookie on top of Italian-style ice cream atop a sherbet - this is the best way to summarize your first foray into Gelupo. The shop looks like an extension of a fridge where ice cream is stored for display. The posters often feature either promos or their latest creations like rice pudding as a base for brandy ice cream topped with a honeycomb wafer. The flavor combos are outrageously fruity. With ingredients like dried fruits, granitas and bay leaf fused into the mix, the next problem you have is picking which variant to taste first.

London Tour Guide

Robert Woolf

I am a London tour guide and my tours include talking about people who have shaped the city plus the many connected places such as Hampton Court Palace, The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the commercial centre of the city: the City of London, and London’s world class museums and galleries. I have been guiding for 12 years. I am a licenced London Blue Badge Tour Guide, a City of London Guide, and a Westminster Guide. The reviews I receive from clients speak of their enjoyment from the local knowledge and the humour I bring to my tours. Born within sight of Hampton Court Palace, I am a Londoner and apart from 2 years in the Middle East, I have worked in this capital city all my business and tour guiding careers. I have travelled widely and I appreciate what appeals to visitors coming to London. I can tailor my tours to interest children. I guide couples, families and larger tour groups. I particularly enjoy visits to Westminster Abbey, where I also volunteer guiding students and children through its wonderful interior – on my tours you will hear about monarchs, why scientists and poets are remembered, the architecture and religious history. The Abbey is the story of England. Come on an engaging and fun tour with me. There is so much to show you !

5. La Gelatiera

Fruits in Italian-style ice cream are not usually found in other gelato shops and this is what is served at La Gelateria for an ultimate edge. Like who would have thought durian tastes great as an ice cream flavor? Having vegan options on the menu also prove to be attractive to the gluten-free demographic. Creamy without being sweet, the vegan reputation is solidified the moment the eatery starts serving ice cream with toasted pecans mixed in with cream cheese. Highly recommended for those who like it more creamy than sweet.

6. Ruby Violet

This shop has become the go-to place for ice cream when strolling along Tufnell Park in London around King’s Cross. The all-season flavors would be the chocolate-based variants served with the seasonal flavors. Dropping by after 9 pm though would be interesting as Ruby Violet has alcohol-based ice creams and sherbets. So if you can’t choose between ice cream and liquor, go try any of Ruby’s Rich Rarities for a pound a scoop.

Some of the photos of Chin Chin Labs, on their Instagram account, would mention their branch at Soho found on 54 Greek Street. But other photos mention their branch in Camden. Whichever the branch may be, loyal patrons have discovered the innovative way they create ice cream. It’s not only vegan, plant-based and gluten-free. It is ice cream mixed with liquid nitrogen. And chances are you’d come over to see if this shop has the same elements as dry ice. Dry ice? Liquid nitrogen? Now the name Chin Chin Labs make sense.

The London branch found at the Borough Market is the satellite branch of the main shop based in Rimini, Italy. Hazelnut lovers adore the affogato served here. Most patrons go buy any flavor here and top it with hot fudge straight out of a tap for an additional charge. It is worth it if you’re adventurous with the way you eat ice cream. Go for ice cream-stuffed buns and other ice cream sandwiches, they are delicious too.

This is the closest shop to the Clapham Common train station, selling very cheap ice cream. Possibly one of the Italian-style ice cream shops selling the lowest-priced gelato in London including the extra scoops that your cup can handle. Patrons that are into the fruit-based desserts go for the sherbets with tidbits of fresh fruit slices from peach to apricot to blackcurrant and some berries. If you’re undecided between ice cream and coffee, choose the affogato to get the best of both worlds.
