Kyoto — Japan’s cultural capital — is one of the largest cities in the country with a population of more than a million people. The city’s rich cultural value with countless shrines and temples has made it a must-stop destination for many travellers. In fact, so exceptional was its cultural value that the city was spared as a target for the atomic bomb during World War II. Its traditional tea houses and sprawling gardens transport you to a different world altogether. Not only that, Japan’s cuisine is famous all over the world and you can try some of its best in the heart of the city. From an exotic blend of matcha tea to the amalgam of spring colours that is Hanami (cherry blossoms), Kyoto is any traveller’s dream city! Remember to visit Kyoto if you are visiting Japan on your next holiday. Read on for the list of nearest airports to Kyoto, the gateway to Japanese culture.

1. Kansai International Airport

Kansai International Airport is built on Osaka Bay, which is about 75 kms. (46.6 miles) southwest of Kyoto. It is also one of the closest international airports to Osaka and Kyoto.
