In Indonesia’s lively and cultural Bali, the night has always been one that never sleeps. Nearly half a century ago, Bali was the playground of many surfers and hippies, and their relaxed and carefree culture brought about a thriving party scene as the years went by. Since then, tourists from all over the world have travelled to Bali to experience it for themselves, turning Bali into a world-class destination for nightlife.
With its affordable prices and diverse range of music, drinks, and styles, Bali has reached the top of the list for every young adult who wishes to party the night away in SE Asia. Read on to discover more about Bali’s fantastic nightclubs and be inspired to pay a visit yourself.
Bali loves the night: the lowdown
As there is no standard opening or closing times for the clubs and discos in Bali, the pumping music usually lingers till sunrise. Usually, the party and action only commences after midnight. The legal age limit for purchasing alcohol in Indonesia is 21, though it is rarely enforced for foreign visitors. Some clubs operate an 18-and-over policy and, in Kuta especially, clubs may sometimes ask to check IDs.
Bali’s top nightlife venues are generally spread across its southern regions of Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak. Due to the diverse range of crowds, music, and venues, be prepared to experience something different in every location. Kuta (and Legian) tend to attract younger, wilder crowds with mega clubs, ultra-cheap drinks, and mainstream dance music, while Seminyak tends to draw a more refined group of clubbers. Many expatriates hang out in Seminyak. The focus is usually stunning venues with top DJs in the house, and drinks of a higher quality prepared by skilled bartenders. However, don’t be mistaken, the clubs in Seminyak can get as wild as those in Kuta.
Here are the best nightclubs in southern Bali that will leave you wanting more:

Easily accessible between Legian and Seminyak and about 200 meters (656 feet) from Double 6 Beach, Jenja is distinctively designed with ultra-stylish interiors that spread over two floors. This cool and high-end bar / club is filled with my affluent locals, ex-pats, and tourists. It is usually busy on Friday and Saturday nights, with techno music pumping through the expensive stereo systems. There is hip-hop night every Wednesday, which gets quite busy too. As for the drink prices, expect to pay about 4 USD for a cold beer and about 6 USD for spirits, which is the normal price for drinks in Seminyak. Alternatively, you can get a bottle of liquor with full table service for just 140 USD.

When you arrive at the bar before the #LaFavela party, are you ordering cocktails, beer or shots? ~ what is your party...
Posted by La Favela Bali on Tuesday, April 27, 2021
More of a bar in the early hours of the evening, this trendy hipster and vintage place, strategically located in the heart of Seminyak, turns into a lively club after midnight. Entering La Favela, you will be greeted by semi-indoor gardens covered by dense foliage, with artificial waterfalls, ponds, and al fresco tables and chairs laid out beyond a mini bridge. Inside is a bar and lounge, with walls heavily adorned with funky old clocks and picture frames. The unique and magical atmosphere is also a must-experience for non-party goers, an appealing attraction for many tourists in Bali. However, if you are looking for a more stylish place, you may not enjoy La Favela, as it tends to get quite messy at times.
Enjoy the special exotic signature cocktails, such as Favela Breeze, a soothing mix of vodka, peach liqueur, and dragon fruit, and the La Favela Mystique, with vodka, green pear, fresh strawberries, apple sour, and cranberry juice. All signature cocktails are at a price of 7 USD, while beers are 2 USD. We also recommend you try the refreshing wine-based drinks, one made with gin and Sauvignon Blanc, and another with vodka, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Crème de Cassis, both for 9 USD.

4. Best for the under 25s: Velvet & Hypnotized (VH)
Editor's Note: Photo taken from the establishment's official social account
Velvet & Hypnotized, also known as VH, is a twin venue located in Beachwalk Mall at Kuta. It is easy to find, but traffic can get horrible on weekend nights. Some taxis may even be unwilling to take you there and instead drop you off at Kartika Plaza, which is a 10-minute walk away from VH. With first-class Martin Audio sound systems, LED multimedia lighting system, and elegant Gothic interior designs, VH plays mainstream dance music that will appeal to the younger crowd. Expect to mingle with young adults mostly under the age of 25. Most of them are Indonesians staying in Bali (but not Balinese) and a mix of tourists from other countries. A cover charge of 7.70 USD has to be paid when you enter the club, but you get a free flow of beer until 1 am, so it is well worth it! The club only gets packed during the weekends, or if there are special events or guest DJs around.
Ladies, VH welcomes you with open arms. Be sure to visit every Wednesday, for it is free just for you! Enjoy a free welcome cocktail and free flow of Shooters cocktails.

Mirror is located in the back of Gardin Bistro on Jalan Petitenget, Seminyak. Get ready to party hard amidst the glittery mosaic-like wall decor, stained-glass windows, towering ceilings, and futuristic laser lights that flash across the room, the overall design akin to a Gothic cathedral. True to its name, the sparkling wall linings of Mirror work pretty well by bouncing off vivid fractals fed by the sharp cosmic lasers, a dazzling effect as the International DJs rock the club with mainstream electronic dance music.
Let your hair down and put on those killer heels, as Mirror is known to attract a dressier and more sophisticated crowd. Choose from the wide selection of cocktails available; try Mirror’s signature cocktail, Blanc Fleur and Irish Tiramisu, for 10 USD. There is a small range of international beers here too, such as Heineken for 5 USD and Corona for 6.50 USD.

6. Hottest in town: Sky Garden Bali
Located right in the heart of Kuta, get ready to be blown away by one of the hottest nightclubs in Bali. Dance to not one, but four levels of different music, each catered to unique tastes. Head down to the popular Skydome, a nightclub with electronic dance music where many tourists from all over the world hover. The roof top bar is also popular, with international DJs spinning all the tunes from the 80s to today’s top 40 hits and plenty of mash-ups and remixes. Many claim that Sky Garden is too mainstream and very commercial, but, the fact is, it is always very happening and very packed.
At night, be sure to catch “Hit the Clock”, where there is a screen that changes every 30 minutes with cheap drinks on offer. The prices for drinks have increased over the years; beers are now at a range of 3-4 USD, and spirits and cocktails are now 7.70+ USD. 7. Very casual: Bounty Discotheque
This unique and entertaining nightclub, also known as ‘Bounty Ship’, is a one-stop entertainment complex complete with an expansive and extravagant discotheque, a restaurant and bar where you can enjoy some booze and DJs that provide thrilling sights and sounds (hip hop and R&B are the norm here). Be awed by Bounty’s exterior; inspired by the old legendary ship HMS Bounty, this elaborate nightclub is furnished beautifully with a front structure resembling a hull and sail masts glowing with white LEDs, a beckoning sight for “passengers” if they would like a taste of this “night cruise”. Mingle with a casual bunch, usually Aussies with singlets and flip flops. It is almost like a college party in here.
Drink prices are reasonable, with happy hours before 12 midnight. Expect to pay about 4 USD for a cold beer, and brightly coloured liqueurs and cocktails from 5 USD. The drinks are served in ‘buckets’, a Bounty tradition in the form of large clear plastic drinking jugs, which you can sip from while freely dancing away with the crowd.

There are also four VVIP rooms that consist of a balcony leading to the club area. Subtle interior lighting and plush lounges are featured throughout the club and its facilities. The sound system is also excellent with international DJs spinning mainstream tunes from the top 40 hits as well as house music. Sometimes, there are even live performances from 8 pm until 12 midnight. However, the live bands tend to perform a lot of Indonesian songs, which can get quite boring if you are unfamiliar with them.
