1. Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa used to house major manufacturing plants such as Coca-Cola and Toyota. Now, it is widely visited for its Enchanted Kingdom, the best theme park in the country. Sitting on a 62-acre (25-hectare) land, Enchanted Kingdom is definitely a place to visit for families but also couples on a fun date. The park has various themed areas such as Agila and Jungle Outpost, each having its own corresponding rides.

Also in this city, Nuvali is a popular destination for travelers going to the south. Ayala Malls Solenad is home to many great restaurants that feature authentic Filipino dishes. Other activities that are available in this area are bike trails, a multifunctional lake, a tree nursery and demo farm, and the Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary.

Traveler's tips

Whenever my family and I are in Sta. Rosa, we make sure to stop by Ramen Nagi for our noodle fix. It's a fairly popular joint in the country, but I think, in Laguna, it's only available in Sta. Rosa, so we're always happy to visit the area. If it's your first time to try this place, I suggest getting the Original Butao King so you can have a taste of their base broth (so goooood!).

2. San Pablo City

San Pablo City is known as one of the oldest cities in the Philippines. Coining the name “City of Seven Lakes,” couples can expect nature spots to highlight this destination. Lake Pandin ranks as the top tourist attraction in this city, with tour packages priced according to the kind of bamboo raft and food option you will be getting.

Couples can also make their way to Yambo Lake which is located right beside Lake Pandin. These twin lakes are a popular tour package as their distance from one another is only a three-minute trek. For more water adventures, travelers can also visit Bato Springs to experience fresh spring water engulfed by trees.

3. Cavinti

Contributing to Laguna’s fame for water-themed travels, Pueblo El Salvador Nature’s Park and Picnic Grove is the top tourist destination in this area. This attraction was established in 2007 as a means to create a more accessible pathway to the Cavinti Falls. It makes the perfect spot for a romantic meal while surrounded by nature, especially for couples who are fond of the outdoors.

To get here, travelers will have to trek, hike, and rappel to get to the treasured falls. You can also avail different tour packages for your preferred adventure in the area.

4. Calamba

Tourists can make their way to the top destinations in Calamba, nicknamed the “Spring Resort Capital of the Philippines”. If you and your partner share the same fondness for history, a visit to Rizal Shrine is the perfect place for you. This museum is a recreation of the two-story house of Jose Rizal, a Filipino national hero. The home was accurately built with a Spanish Colonial style, depicting the way Filipinos lived during that time.

A 12-minute drive from Rizal’s home will take you to Cuyab Hot Cold and Warm Springs Resort, known to be Laguna’s oldest resort. Facilities in this attraction include outdoor spring showers, picnic tables, and cottages, perfect for a romantic getaway.

Traveler's tips

My boyfriend and I love to eat out on the weekends, and some of our go-to spots in Calamba are Yummysamgyup (inside D'Fresco Building in Halang) for some Korean barbecue and mini buffet, It's A Thai (We love their binagoongan rice! We're already a fan of this Thai resto since their beginnings in Los Baños), and Buddy's (also in D'Fresco) for their signature Pancit Lucban. We're big coffee lovers too, so we naturally had to find good coffee in Calamba. I highly recommend Morgan's (I love their Spanish latte) and OJ's Brew. If you like something a bit more familiar, the signature classic coffee at Krispy Kreme in SM Calamba is another favorite of ours!

5. Los Baños

Los Baños is home to the great Mount Makiling, an inactive stratovolcano that holds a popular local myth about a spirit called Maria Makiling, known to be the protector of the forest. Couples who like a hike can conquer this mountain for a duration of four to five hours. However, if this is too extensive, don’t worry - stopovers and camping are allowed.

The International Rice Research Insitute is another possible destination in this city. Only a 25-minute drive from Mount Makiling, this museum will educate you on the rice-growing culture and farm practices in the Philippines. For visitors interested in learning more about the different plants found in the country, a quick 10-minute drive from the museum will bring you to the Makiling Botanical Gardens, an eco-tourism destination.

Traveler's tips

Spice Jar, near Robinson's, is a great date night spot I would recommend if you and your partner love Tex-Mex cuisine. For a date night in a cozy setting, you can try Danielito's in Agapita or Seoul Kitchen in Umali. If you prefer a more intimate ambiance, Dalcielo along Lopez Avenue is a great option. The restaurant is small and quaint, but the menu takes you to different places! If your partner is a coffee lover, some of my local go-to are Likha (available on weekends in Vega Arcade), Forty Thirty, and Elbi Commons. For a romantic walk, take your loved one to the UPLB campus. It's unbelievably peaceful there. You can start at CPark (or Carabao Park), make your way to the College of Arts and Sciences building (right behind Oble/Oblation), and then pass through Palma Bridge until you reach Freedom Park!

Pagsanjan is widely known as the tourist capital of Laguna, along with being home to the famous Pagsanjan Falls. The falls are measured at around 300 feet (91 meters) and are a hotspot for outdoorsy couples. You have the choice of going through a hiking trail or taking a dugout canoe ride to get here. Guests can also avail of a tourist package for a roundtrip boat ride, entrance fees and life vests included.

Taking into account the impact of religion in the Philippines, guests who are interested in learning more about the country’s Catholic history can visit the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
