Kyoto is nestled in the Kansai region of Japan and is home to numerous national treasures, countless shrines and temples, and a total of seventeen World Heritage Sites. On your romantic excursion you could choose to visit the numerous shrine gates in Fushimi Inari-Taisha, the Geisha quarter of the Gion district, the extensive bamboo grove of Arashiyama, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace Park, which is planted with a variety of glorious flowers and is perfect for a picnic. Ok, so we have the reason that you should visit Kyoto but the question is, where should you stay. Our list below should help you out there…

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 14, 2024.

1. Kyoto Granbell Hotel (from USD 249)

This hotel is the perfect destination for those of you who still like to keep in touch with the modern world but appreciate a hint of tradition and history. Both the outside and inside decorations of this hotel are perfectly on key with matching wood beds in the rooms and traditional art being displayed alongside LED mood lighting. There are two gender split onsens on site. We particularly love the indoor garden and bathing area which will relax you both nicely before enjoying a Japanese dinner. Overall, the hotel is fairly new, well-designed, and set at a mid-price range with easy transport connections.

This large hotel features dramatic design, with mixtures of gold and deep purples. The rooms are of a good size for Japan and the grand lobby is fantastic for relaxing and people watching. If you want to see more of the local area itself, you’ll need to catch the shuttle bus or take a taxi as this hotel is more remote than most, although it is still fairly easy to get around and many couples find the peace and quiet perfect for their time together. The staff are always welcoming, but do you want to know our favourite part? They offer self service matcha green tea in the rooms. To us, its the perfect way to start the day together!

This beautiful location will make you feel like a king and queen, not only because it was once a former royal residence (it was primarily built for the uncle of the emperor) but also because of the amount of care and attention given by the staff. We love the tea salon here; a perfect place to spend an afternoon relaxing with your partner whilst being treated to the finest tea on offer. After that you can take a relaxing stroll through the Japanese Gardens. As this is a traditional style hotel, you should expect sliding paper doors, floor seating, and tatami stye beds.
