11. A skytop view at a roof garden

Editor’s note: Establishment is permanently closed

So you want a completely romantic evening, including a view? Head to a rooftop bar or garden. They are very popular and all over Seoul, and even have locations that range from inexpensive to extremely expensive. If you are looking to save money, you can always head up to one of these cheaper options for a drink and eat somewhere else.

If you have the money to spend and want a leisurely paced meal, our favorite is the Sky Rose Garden outside of Chungmuro Station. In the summer, this place can book up fast, so make sure to plan ahead. Many couples first see a movie at the infamous Daehan Cinema in this same building but on a lower floor. From there it is very easy to head up the elevator to the eighth floor and enjoy the beautiful variety of roses on display. You can enjoy a gourmet meal and pricey drinks here at the top, with an excellent view and constantly changing rose displays. The best time to head up here is, no surprise, at sunset! But it is beautiful no matter what time you make it here! If you are finding out about this place last minute and they are too busy to seat you, don’t fret! There are many other sky view restaurants nad bars on our list to choose from.

If you are short on cash but still want an impressive view, head to one of these cheaper options. Gaja Changgo is one of the original rooftop bars in Seoul, located in the Itaewon area. It’s a bit like hanging out at your college pad, with its plastic furniture and lack of decor but you are not heading here for the atmosphere! You can hang out here on the bar stools and watch the people on the street below. You can also join a large table of strangers and make new friends! Beer is the cheapest at this spot, costing you a mere 4469.77 KRW (4 USD) - which is the cheapest I have ever seen in Itaewon. The staff is super nice here as well and will gladly order you a cheap meal if you get hungry from a nearby chicken place.

Looking for a change of scenery and want to get out of the crowded downtown area for your date? Head out to Olympic Park Subway Station. Here, you can get a breath of fresh air, stroll around and admire the statues, displays and images from the 1988 Olympics. This park will be heavy on the walking, but luckily there are options to rent bikes from local vendors. There are also plenty of places to sit and relax and enjoy the outdoor space with your date. Make sure to pack a picnic lunch if you don’t want to be stuck eating in the limited restaurants nearby.
