Built in 1939, this legendary watering hole in West Hollywood has opened again recently and retains its Asian flavor. The terrazzo floors and deep red booths are reminiscent of the time Hollywood bigshots graced the space. Just beyond the main bar sits the famous trolley car which dates back to more than a century. The walls are lined with headshots and period-specific newspaper clippings, old art, carvings, all from an era gone by. The cocktail menu at the Formosa bar is inspired by both the Golden Age of Hollywood, as well as the bar’s own history. For example, Duke’s all-nighter is a drink which, according to legend, retells the day John Wayne was found making scrambled eggs in the morning. The food served here gives a modern spin to Taiwanese Cuisine that was served at the height of Formosa’s fame. Whether for the fare or the history, Formosa bar, with its red leather couches and its memorable walls must be visited when in Hollywood.
