The largest city in the state of Michigan, Detroit, was originally known for its auto industry. Saint Andrew’s Hall was formerly a meeting place for the Scottish Society of Detroit. After World War II, the venue was made available for rental to hold meetings and concerts.

During the 1980s, the hall and the basement area known as The Shelter became an iconic and trendsetting music club. In the past, big acts like Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Paul Simon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam have appeared in the hall.

During the 2000s, contemporary acts such as Eminem and Adele have played here as well as many famous DJs.

Upcoming events in 2020

Upcoming events include “Thunderstruck” – America’s AC/DC Tribute Band and other tribute bands, plus shows featuring The Almost, Atmosphere, Black Pumas with Seratones and the Magic City Hippies.

Besides musical concerts held at Saint Andrew’s Hall and The Shelter, the venue also has two full-service bars, offering around 80 brands of beer and a wide range of liquors.

Private events

The venue can be rented for private events, at either Saint Andrew’s Hall, The Shelter and The Society Room, or the whole venue can be rented. Catering services are also available for private events.

Prohibited items

A number of items are prohibited when attending a concert at Saint Andrew’s Hall, including professional photographic or video equipment (unless approved by the artist), selfie sticks, Go-Pros, toy weapons, laser pointers or glow sticks and related items, firearms, balloons or inflatable balls. Cameras that are allowed

While professional photographic or video devices are banned and depending on the individual performer’s policies, visitors can normally use cellphone cameras and small, point-and-shoot cameras while attending a show.

Should you need to draw cash while attending a concert, there are two ATMs available – one in the main lobby of Saint Andrew’s Hall and the second in The Shelter.

How to get there

Saint Andrew’s Hall can be found at 431 East Congress Street in the Bricktown/Greektown area of Downtown Detroit, between Brush and Beaubien Streets. The Shelter is located in the basement of Saint Andrew’s Hall and is accessible from the rear of the building.

Bus

The following bus numbers take visitors close to Saint Andrew’s Hall: 003, 004, 005, 052 and 067. For more details of the buses and directions from various restaurants in Detroit, visit the Moovit website.

Light Rail

Car

For those wishing to drive to the location, the following directions from Downtown Detroit are from Google Maps:

  • The fastest route is via Randolph Street which might have somewhat heavy traffic, it will take approximately 6 minutes to travel 0.7 mi (1 km).

  • Via Beaubien Street, there is some traffic and it takes around 7 minutes to drive the 0.7 mi (1 km).

  • Via Woodward Avenue and W Larned Street, the traffic is somewhat heavy and takes around 9 minutes to travel the 0.9 mi (1.4 km).

Parking

Parking is available on all four sides of the building or in local parking garages, which are all independently operated.

Box office

Tickets for both venues can be purchased at Saint Andrew’s box office between 12pm and 5 pm from Monday to Thursday and between 10am and 5 pm on Friday. The Box Office remains closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets can also be bought on the day of the show, 30 minutes before the door time for The Shelter and 1 hour prior to the door time at Saint Andrew’s Hall.
