The Coca-Cola London Eye has become a real landmark in the city since it was built back in 1998. Beautifully designed and created to really give you a bird’s eye view of London, the Coca-Cola London Eye is an important stop on your travels through this vibrant city.
Built for the Millennium
The idea for the Coca-Cola London Eye was conceived as part of the city’s millennium celebrations in 2000. I remember travelling through the city around the time it was built and watching the huge structure being put up. It was a fantastic sight and now the monumental wheel stands at a massive 135 metres high. It’s a big part of the London skyline and as you can imagine, there is a fantastic view of London and beyond!
Created with beauty and strength in mind
The Coca-Cola London Eye was built with safety in mind. The structure is solid as well as comfortable for those who ride it. Each of the 32 pods on the wheel is of a luxurious size with space for up to 25 people. One full rotation of the wheel takes around half an hour, so that’s plenty of time to take in the sights. From my own experience, I would recommend taking a good camera with you because there are many opportunities to take some world-class photos.
Ideal location for a fun-filled day
The wheel sits on London’s South Bank, which is just one of the many cultural hubs of the city. It is located next to the Jubilee gardens, a few metres from the River Thames itself. Are you thinking about making a day of it? The South Bank Centre is also located here, as is the London Aquarium. Both will have an exciting list of events that you may also wish to visit. Alternatively, you can take a romantic stroll along the river, stopping for a coffee at one of the many cafes and eateries along the way.
Best time to ride the Coca-Cola London Eye
Although climbing aboard the wheel at any time of year is spectacular, seeing London at dusk and at night is sensational too. You’ll be able to see the majestic St Paul’s Cathedral and the rest of London’s business district beautifully lit among the many well known landmarks. The Day and Night Experience on the Coca-Cola London Eye is highly recommended and allows you to ride the wheel once in the day time and again after dark.
Different ways to enjoy your experience
There is also the option to personalise your experience by booking a private capsule for for activities such as parties and wine tasting. You can opt for two 30 minute rotations in these cases. The prices for these events can be confirmed on The Coca-Cola London Eye website.
The Coca-Cola London Eye is open all year except for Christmas and some holidays. It’s well worth checking the website in advance as opening times vary. General tickets for a 30 minute ride range from around 20 GBP (30 USD) per person. There is also the option for a guide to talk you through the views as the wheel rotates. This comes at a cost of 24 . It is a great option for people who are new to London. Concessions are available when booking in advance on its official website.
London like you’ve never seen it before
There really is no better way to see this amazing city than by overlooking it in the air. Book your ticket for the Coca-Cola London Eye and enjoy the ride!
