Is it a mall? Is it a marina? Is it both? The Straits Quay opened in 2010 and it is many things, including a mall. Many locals come here to do their shopping. Because of its seaside location, people with boats come here and you can even park small vessels right on the property. 2. Gurney Plaza
If you can’t find what you’re looking for at Gurney Plaza, you probably don’t need it. Opened in 2001, Gurney Plaza is one huge mall. Spread out on 9 floors there are 380 shops with major retails and tons of international brands available as well as a movie theater on the top floor which is coincidentally the largest multiplex in Malaysia. If you’re done with your shopping and you want to kick back a little, there are a variety of entertainment options as well like laser-tag and an escape room.

3. Gurney Paragon
Gurney Paragon is also located on the lovely Gurney Drive and features both retail stores and condominiums as well as business blocks. Although not as big as Gurney Plaza, the size of the buildings here are quite a sight to behold as they are some of the largest buildings in Malaysia. The mall space has a cinema attached to it and there are over 200 stores including many international brands.

4. Penang Times Square
Inspired by the legendary Times Square in New York, Penang Times Square is not a shopping mall in the traditional sense of the word but are tons of shops and shopping spaces around the area. The development is relatively new but there are already many plans in the works for this area. Shopping blocks like the M Mall O2O are already opened along with Birch the Plaza which includes luxury boutiques, cafes and even a handful of nightclubs.

5. New World Park Penang
In the west, shopping malls usually have food courts in them, but here at New World Park Penang, the mall is the food court. 6. M Mall Penang
Located in Penang Times Square, the beautiful new M Mall Penang opened in 2015 and is one of the hottest shopping spots in the city. There are over 500 retail outlets in the mall and four stories worth of decoration promoting and showcasing different landmarks and icons of the country. Each subsequent floor in the mall is modeled after different countries and if you want to take a break some shopping, there is also a wax museum in the area, the first one in the city.

7. All Seasons Palace
Opened in 2012, All Seasons Palace is a strip mall in Penang and forms part of the business development known as the “All Season Park”. Aside from shopping offices and residential accommodations can also be found here. The mall was designed by renowned Australian architects and the strip has been designed to feature the storefronts facing the road and pedestrian walkway. In a city where traffic congestion can get pretty bad, the All Seasons Palace free and spacious parking so if you’re traveling here with a vehicle, you’re in luck!

8. t Avenue Penang

1st Avenue Penang is a pretty large mall that opened in 2010 and features quite a cool design with a pedestrian bridge connecting the mall to another building across the street. The mall is pretty lively with tons of great retail stores from international brands like Victoria’s Secret, H&M and Hush Puppies. The building has seven floors including a movie theater at the top floor called “Cloud 8”. On top of all that there is a wide selection of dining options available as well like Baskin-Robbins and Starbucks. If you’re looking for some more entertainment there is a laser-tag area, escape room and karaoke here as well.

9. Prangin Mall
Prangin Mall is the other mall that connects to 1st Avenue Penang mall via its overhead sky bridge. Although in competition with its neighbor, Prangin Mall caters to a more middle-class market and fewer luxury spenders. The building has six floors of retail outlets while its top floor consists of entertainment spaces like a kid’s playground and a bowling alley. If you want to grab a bite to eat while you’re here, there are some food options available, mostly of the fast-food variety.
