This charming shopping mall brings all kinds of fun under one roof. You can shop, watch movies and dine out, all in one place. Providence Place opened in the year 1999 in the central part of the island. This mall is spread over three floors. It is connected directly to Westin Hotel, located nearby. Some of the famous brands you can find in here are Bath & Body Works, Tiffany & Co., Sephora, Coach, Ann Taylor, Old Navy, The Apple Store, Brooks Brothers, True Religion Brand Jeans, Michael Kors, Sur La Table, White House | Black Market, DSW, Vera Bradley, Madewell, and more. There is a separate place for entertainment, where you can find IMAX theater. Lastly, the famous food chains like The Cheesecake Factory, Uno Chicago Grill, The Melting Pot, Fire + Ice, and Joe’s American Bar & Grill are there if you are looking for a light snack or a full meal.

2. Warwick Mall

This enclosed shopping mall has a huge retail area, with around 80 shops and a spacious food court. Warwick Mall was established in the year 1970, with 4 anchor chain of supermarkets. Nowadays, it has seven anchor chains, Macy’s, Jordan’s Furniture, Old Navy, JCPenney, Nordstrom Rack, Target, and Off Broadway Shoes. There is a vacant anchor that was previously owned by Sports Authority. The mall was hugely affected in the year 2010 by the flood in the city. It was closed and reopened after five months towards the end of the same year.

Garden City Center is an open-air shopping center, consisting of a fine blend of regional and national outlets. The mall was opened in the year 1948, just after World War II. It was established by Nazarene Melocarro, an Italian immigrant who wanted to create a livelihood for the people. Five generations have passed since, and today it is one of the major shopping malls in the town. Here you can get to see major retailers like Ann Taylor Loft, Coldwater Creek, Williams Sonoma, Talbots, and Whole Foods Market. The mall is very conveniently located on Midway Road, just 10 minutes away from Providence.

4. The Arcade Providence

The historic shopping arcade, The Arcade Providence, is located in downtown Providence. It is the oldest enclosed shopping mall in the country, built in the year 1828. The entire building is a fine example of commercial Greek Revival architecture. The structure from that era is kept intact, with its classic facades, granite walls, and authentic columns. It used to be an important shopping destination of the city until the late 20th century when it had closed its doors. In the year 1976, it was declared as the National Historic Landmark. It was renovated and opened its doors again in the year 2013. Today it is a mix-use residential and commercial building. The charming building was designed by Tallman & Bucklin and Russell Warren. The charming market overlooks two important streets, the Westminster and Weybosset Streets. This shopping center is home to Dave’s Fresh Marketplace. It is a huge grocery store that fulfills all domestic needs. The Crossing at Smithfield is one of the few shopping arcades that dominates a huge area in and around Rhode Island. Technically, it serves Northwestern Rhode Island, West Providence, North Providence, and the Eastern part of Connecticut. Along with Dave’s Fresh Marketplace, it also has national retailers like Kohl’s, Target, Barnes & Noble, and Home Depot. The gazebo of this shopping center hosts a number of concerts throughout the year as well.

7. Wakefield Mall


Wakefield Mall is a very small one, spread over one single floor. The entire shopping arcade has only 10 to 15 stores. When it was established, there were only two anchor stores, and one of them was Rich’s. It was basically a discounted departmental store chain. The other one was NHD, which was a home goods and hardware store. Both of these stores are closed right now and the space of Rich’s is taken over by Shaw’s, a glorious supermarket. So if you are looking to get basic household essentials, head to this mall.

The mall is effectively serving the important Woonsocket trade area.
