Ujjain is a mid-sized city in the western region of the state of Madhya Pradesh. It has always been an important destination in history. Hindu manuscripts have its name everywhere. It has been one of the mahajanpad (kingdom) during the sixth century BCE, and it has remained as an important state until the Gupta Empire up to the sixth century AD. Furthermore, Ujjain has countless temples and is much loaded with religious history. It also features great accommodations like hotels and Oyo rooms. But a lot of tourists have this misconception that Ujjain and around is completely dull besides its temple scene, which is far from being true. The city is actually pretty modern with contemporary advancements, like shopping streets, food plazas, malls, and multiplexes. And to break this stereotype, we have shared an index below that will show you the top shopping malls in Ujjain. Please have a look at them.
1. Pakiza

Pakiza is situated in the heart of Ujjain, a stone’s throw away from the most important intersection of this city—Ghantaghar or the tower square. This place began the mall culture in Ujjain with a superstore that is basically an extension of the Indore-based retail group Pakiza. Iqbal Gori, who was just a cycle-puncture repairer in the 1970s, made Pakiza a superstore from a cloth stall. He succeeded in life as he always believed in customer satisfaction. The group still follows the same motto, and thus, on top of the features of a regular department store, Pakiza does offer something more to its customers. Mehndi/henna design, popcorn, and cold drinks are some of the free offerings here for every shopper.

2. Cosmos
Editor's Note: There's no photo available at the time of writing
Cosmos is the largest mall in the city, and it is located really close to Nanakheda Bus Stand. The venue was opened in the year 2011 with the name Treasure Bazaar, but the original project failed to deliver and had to be shut down. A new group took over the property and rebooted the mall space after some crucial renovations. Thankfully, Cosmos is a huge success now. It’s a multi-level property that features a hyper-store and almost 100 small stall/shops at the basement area. Cafés, bars, diners, pizzerias, tattoo parlors, and clothing stores are on the ground and mid-levels. And finally, you can also find more things to do in the mall’s multiplex, gym, food court, and gaming arcade on the top floor.

3. C21 Mall

Indore is a major trade capital of Central India and has several great malls. Thankfully, it is less than an hour’s drive from Ujjain. C21 or Century 21 Mall is considered as the most organized mall in the city. It was built as the twin mall of Malhar Mega Mall. The neighboring plazas are linked through a bridge, delivering you a grand experience. C21 features a supermarket, hundreds of stores, an entertainment zone, and a multiplex.

4. Treasure Island Mall

Treasure Island Mall, also known as just TI, holds a very special place in the heart of the residents of Indore. Having been opened in the year 2006, TI delivered an essential upgrade to Indore as it was the first mall in the city. This venue alone supplies more popular brands, multinational fast-food chains, and cafés than all other malls combined. Treasure Island is a grand-scale mall; excluding the multi-floor underground parking space—just the shop levels are built on seven floors. It boasts many branded stores, a supermarket, upscale cinema, gaming zone, sports bar, and so much more.

5. One Centre
One Centre is a strip mall that has opened very recently in Indore. It is located within walking distance from TI Mall, next to the best-known foodie street—Chhappan Dukan. One Centre is a place that offers casual shopping and street-food experience on the go. This venue has several inexpensive boutiques dealing in duplicate brands, which are locally known as “first copy.” So when anyone wants to have bootlegged Nike shoes, the branded malls may not be very helpful to them. The basement level of One Centre has clothing stores, imitation jewelry shops, tattoo parlors, mehndi/henna artists, and more. While the upper levels should help you with electronics, footwear, cosmetics, and daily-use shopping.

Break the stereotype

As you have seen, the city and around is not just limited to temples, landmarks, and things Ujjain is famous for. Because this is an ancient city, which is also mentioned in many sacred Hindu texts, people have started to generalize Ujjain for being a temple city. But now you are aware of the top shopping malls in the area.
