Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand. Home to two of the biggest festivals, Songkran, and Yi Peng, this city is full of fun things to do and one of its major attractions is Chiang Mai’s old city (also known as Old Town). Positioning yourself in the center of the old city allows you to walk everywhere and be within minutes of markets, street food, and cafes.

Affordable stay at K-House Guesthouse

K-House Guesthouse

K-House is run by Mr.K and his daughter Mai. Located right in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city, the guesthouse is steps away from Three Kings Monument. There are six rooms in this guesthouse; each equipped with fan and a private bathroom. You can get rooms either with or without air-conditioning. The rooms are basic and come with a bed, dresser and cable T.V. There is a communal refrigerator in the hallway to store drinks or leftovers. The rooms range from 6.50 - 12.00 USD a night. You may also rent a motorbike right from the guesthouse for 6.00 USD a day. Pedal bikes are available for use, free of charge.

Welcome to your private room at K-House

K-House Guesthouse

Each room has a double bed with a plush blanket to sleep with. The fan in your room is enough to keep you cool at night, but if you prefer, you can book a room with air-conditioning The beds are Thai style, meaning they have hard frames with a thin mattress. Know that unless you stay at a hotel, most of the guesthouses will have this kind of hard bed. The bathroom is located outside on your private patio, and the shower head is located above the toilet, which is typical of the Thai culture. There is not much noise from the outside, as rooms are upstairs and away from the street. The rooms only share one wall with another room, but the only noise you may hear is from other guests entering and leaving their rooms. There is no housekeeping service here, if you stay longer than a week, you will need to do your own laundry, including sheets. You can pay the guesthouse to do your laundry, or use coin-operated washers next door.

Chiang Mai Night Markets

K-House is in the perfect location, right in the center of the city. Chiang Mai’s Old Town is very safe, even at night. Being centrally located makes it very easy to walk around as it’s only 2 Kilometers from end to end. You can walk or take one of the free bikes to explore the city.

Don’t miss out on Chiang Mai’s popular walking markets. The two most popular are the Night Bazaar and Sunday night walking market. The Night Bazaar is the place to find everything from knock-off products to food stalls. This is the place to test out your haggle skills. The vendors are happy to negotiate “special price” for their products. It will take you 20 minutes to walk there from the K-House.

If you’re looking for handmade products from local artisans, then the Sunday Night Walking Market is the place for you to be. Here you can find handmade mango wood bowls, handmade soap, and paintings. You can also find some artists making their creation right on the street to prepare to sell to you. This market is perfect to go to being only 2 blocks from the guesthouse.

K-House - Plenty of reasons to smile

Staying at K-House is a great experience. Mai runs the front desk and is there to offer assistance with booking tours or to give you recommendations on where to eat. Both Mai and Mr. K are friendly, welcoming, and always greet you with a warm smile on their face. After spending a week in Chiang Mai, you’ll get to know the locals and find out why Thailand is called the Land of Smiles.
