Pontocho is a town in Kyoto famous as the home of various Japanese traditions such as Maiko (apprentice geisha) and tea houses. Located in this town is the sweets shop Pontocho Suragaya, which serves the Hitokuchi Warabi, which means “one-mouth Warabi Mochi”. The Warabi Mochi is a type of jelly-like Japanese sweet made from bracken starch.

The Hitokuchi Warabi has a soft texture and is filled with red bean paste. Poured over it is Kinako (toasted soy bean powder) and this snack is great as a walk-and-eat food.

Kyoto is extremely famous for having delicious Matcha sweets and Malebranche is one of the places where you can enjoy creative versions of them.

It is recommended that you try the Chanohako (tsuki) menu when at Malebranche which serves Muffin and Cake-soft together with a choice of coffee or tea. The cake-soft is an exclusive menu which combines soft cream together with cake - it is cold but has a texture in between the soft cream and cake.

There are also other souvenirs such as the Chanoka - a Lang de Chat made from a mixture of Matcha and white chocolate - available there so make sure you check them out!
